The Molasses Flood is looking for a Lead Mission Designer who will be responsible for mission design and implementation for a brand new multiplayer adventure set in The Witcher universe. This is a leadership position, and will involve hiring and managing a team of designers, as well as working across all disciplines to ensure that our creative decisions remain faithfully grounded in the world of The Witcher, while delivering engaging, fun and immensely replayable multiplayer gameplay experiences. It will also involve guiding the creation and deployment of our internal suite of mission and world activity authoring tools. The person in this role will report to the Design Director. For US hires, this role may be performed per our hybrid work model in the greater Boston area (Tues/Thurs in our office and Mon/Wed/Fri work from home), with relocation assistance available. OR For hires in the US or Canada, this role could also be performed remotely within the continental US and Canada, and according to US East coast core hours. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a team of mission designers to create a library of fun, varied and replayable multiplayer experiences.
Work with the gameplay and level design teams, to ensure the missions take full advantage of the entire design space of the game, and to ensure all our gameplay features are showcased in the best way possible.
Work closely with the Narrative team to craft fun and challenging story scenarios that are at home in the world of the Witcher.
Work with engineering to design and build a suite of mission design and world activity authoring tools, and oversee the use of those tools to create great multiplayer gameplay experiences.
Work with production to establish a mission design pipeline that spans initial prototype implementation, leadership review, playtesting, iteration and polish, and then see to it that the mission team can move content through that pipeline in a smooth and efficient way.
Collaborate across disciplines to bring the world of the game to life for the player, in an engaging and replayable way.
Minimum 7 years as a Designer in the game industry, including at least three as a mission, quest or level designer.
A strong sense of game balance, story-telling and pacing.
A strong background in scripting (visual or otherwise) and experience with game editors and game design tools.
The ability to communicate fluently with engineering, art, narrative and production.
Candidates must have a US or Canadian work permit or citizenship.

The Molasses Flood is looking for a mid-level Gameplay Designerto design, implement, and iterate on features, mechanics, and core gameplay systems that fulfill the game’s high-level design vision. The Gameplay Designer will ideate and write-up, or adapt, initial design proposals/specs and then work to get those designs in-game through hands-on prototyping, testing/iteration, and eventual full implementation in tandem with other designers and engineers.
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who understands the ins-and-outs of the core gameplay loop (second-to-second, minute-to-minute) and is capable of jumping in and adding new mechanic/feature prototypes that can expand the possibility space for what players can do. The Gameplay Designer is also someone who frequently evaluates how their gameplay features fit within the core loop, and reinforces the game’s design pillars and overall vision.

Design and prototype a variety of systems that adhere to best practices established by engineering and design leads.
Implement open-ended game systems and features that interact naturally with other areas of the game.
Continually push the boundaries of the core gameplay loop wherever possible to create a variety of emergent gameplay scenarios and player stories.
Communicate out updates in best practices and tool status to the team and be on the look-out for opportunities to get feedback for iterative improvements.
Demonstrate understanding of game design and development principles and the processes used to achieve them.
A strong background in scripting (visual or otherwise).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build out, maintain and optimize foundational AI systems in a multiplayer environment, using C++ and Blueprints.

Follow the code quality standards set by the team.
