RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Portfolio Management Office (PMO) team, and reporting to the Senior Manager of the PMO, this position will work closely with fellow PMO team members to ensure that there is empowerment, awareness, and alignment around Common App’s programmatic work in support of the organization's strategy. 

The Project Manager will play an active role in the PMO’s day-to-day operations and serve as a valued business partner to programmatic leaders of all levels by providing ongoing, tailored project management support and guidance to a variety of cross-functional projects across the organization. This position will also support and help lead enterprise-wide learning of project management through formal and informal channels and resources to establish baseline project management knowledge across the organization and role-specific proficiency.

This role requires:

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience managing cross-functional projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, business analytics, or relevant field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience applying a variety of project management methodologies (waterfall, agile, hybrid, etc.) 
  • Familiarity with a variety of project management processes and tools, particularly Atlassian products (Jira and Confluence).
  • Project Management Acumen & Advanced Technical Skills: Possesses and deploys advanced knowledge of project management methodologies, practices, and skills to effectively manage projects and stakeholders, create and maintain detailed project plans and timelines, and identify and track deliverables, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, etc.
  • PMO (Portfolio Management Office) Knowledge: Able to articulate an understanding of how PMO operations fit into the organization’s operating model and the value it can bring.
  • Project Management Tools: Able to easily use and adapt to a variety of project management tools.
  • Communication: Demonstrates outstanding skills in written, verbal, and visual communication to effectively and proactively convey information and teach project management best practices as well as exhibiting strong active listening and comprehension skills:
    • Excellent Written Communication: Ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling project management artifacts, presentations, and educational resources/templates.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Reporting: Familiarity with project and program reporting.

  • Advanced degree and/or relevant certification(s) (e.g., PMP, PfMP, CAPM, CSM).
  • Project management with non-profit organizations.

PAY RANGE

Target hiring salary range $77,910-87,649

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Data Scientist position is charged with helping to build the organization’s evolving data analytic and research function. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, Data Operations, the individual will be engaged with all aspects of the data operations function, including the development of internal and external-facing business intelligence products, oversight of data warehousing, and analyses and reports supporting Common App's organizational priorities and strategic initiatives. Our organization is dedicated to reimagining college admissions to be more simple, logical, joyful, and equitable. Additionally, we hope to expand access to more low- and middle-income students via partnerships and innovations, leverage our data and research to be a voice for equity in the admissions process, and connect students to financial aid resources, information, and opportunities.

The Data Scientist will build efficient systems, processes, and workflows to execute the data operations agenda. They will produce and maintain ETL processes, tables, and visualizations supporting Common App’s commitment to access and equity across the organization’s functional areas. They will also collaborate closely with our Technology Services (Data Warehousing Engineering), Product Strategy, and Data Analytics and Research teams to maximize the impact of the data warehouse.

Additionally, we hope to expand access to more low- and middle-income students via partnerships and innovations, leverage our data and research to be a voice for equity in the admissions process, and connect students to financial aid resources, information, and opportunities.

This role requires:

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Bachelors degree in quantitative social sciences discipline (e.g., Public Policy, Economics, Education Policy, Education Measurement, Psychometrics, Computational Psychology, etc.) or related quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-6 years of related experience: data reporting, SQL, database architecture, ETL procedures, data analytics, data mining, data operations, and data quality. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience in designing and implementing data warehousing, reporting, and analytic systems.
  • Experience working with and validating imperfect data.
  • Experience with descriptive and inferential statistics. 
  • Experience working with National Center for Education Statistics, Census, College Scorecard, National Student Clearinghouse, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, and/or other publicly available datasets relevant to education.
  • Fluent in data manipulation and coding with SQL and/or R.
  • Understanding of the strategic context of Common Application’s role in the higher education industry. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and service orientation.
  • Proven ability to communicate data and research findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse environment

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Master’s or doctorate degree in a quantitative discipline and at least one year of related experience.
  • 2-4 years of related experience with data visualization (Tableau, R preferred).
  • 2-4 years of related experience with Atlassian tools, Git, Databricks, AWS Sagemaker, or S3. 
  • Fluent data manipulation and coding with tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, and R.
  • Passion for higher education.
  • Experience working with Agile frameworks for cross-functional, product-minded collaboration.
  • Teaching and supporting non-data experts in the use and interpretation of data.

PAY RANGE

Target hiring salary range $95,000-99,845

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director, Software Quality Assurance, our Software QA Engineer works collaboratively with a team of quality assurance professionals to ensure constituents have a great user experience with Common App’s software products. The Software QA Engineer is a member of the Quality Assurance Team, and will be expected to plan, develop, and execute comprehensive system tests, while working in an empowered and agile environment.  The Software QA Engineer performs a wide range of duties, including functional, security, accessibility, and compatibility tests. The Software QA Engineer also identifies and confirms resolution of defects based on an established QA methodology.  This individual will also assist departments across the organization with activities related to quality assurance.

QUALIFICATIONS

This role requires:

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science from four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4-6 years of successful, progressive experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth understanding of QA methodologies & testing environments.
