Job Description

This position is responsible for meeting the needs of our customers (internal and external) through effective use of technology throughout the software development lifecycle. The Tech Lead position possesses deep and broad technical skills to assist in project and program level support of our software systems. This position architects solutions and provides leadership by following and adapting software practices and guidelines in the development and support of sustainable software systems.

Our Next Software Engineer Tech Lead Will:

  • Co-lead a scrum team with the Product Owner and be accountable for the Retail Point of Sale (POS)  team’s outcomes

  • Support and develop software engineers (junior-to-senior level) 

  • Provide coaching to software engineers on the team to follow best practices

  • Be an active participant in strategic planning discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Provide technical direction for solutions of complex problems while staying consistent with overall solution architecture. 

  • Understand who our customers are and the ability to propose and architect solutions to meet their needs.

  • Have the ability to take high-level system initiatives and decompose them into workable user stories

  • Ensure the team's smooth execution of project, meeting of objectives, staying on track, and delivering high-quality solutions on budget..

  • Have in-depth system knowledge, architectural design, project execution, and solution design

  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Qualifications

Our Next Software Engineer Tech Lead Has:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Elixir

  • In-depth knowledge of retail operations and POS platforms

  • Experience leading a team of junior-to-senior-level engineers

  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to drive results

  • Expert ability to work across multiple systems and diagnose systems and create well-documented interfaces for intra-system software systems/dependencies.

  • Work cohesively with other departments (IT, Merchandising, Accounting, ERP team).

  • Integration Experience: Strong background in integrating POS systems (like Retail Pro/Prism) with external and internal systems, including ERP, inventory, and e-commerce platforms.

  • Services and API Development: Experience designing, developing, and maintaining microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly, especially when they involve complex system integrations.

Our Next Product Category Merchant Will:

  • Have overall ownership of P&L and sales forecasts for the off-road miscellaneous, street miscellaneous, and luggage categories.
  • Understand and keep current with trends, opportunities, and competition.
  • Develop a deep understanding of on-site consumer behavior within your categories, identify and prioritize barriers to purchase, and implement solutions to improve conversion
  • Optimize the eCommerce shopping path and drive continuous improvement of product content 
  • Maintain vendor relations including negotiating sales agreements, shipping agreements, marketing participation, end-of-life buying opportunities, and communicating company initiatives
  • Coordinate with various marketing channels to appropriately enhance top-selling and highly profitable brands
  • Seek out new vendors to expand our catalog and negotiate better product pricing, payment terms, and shipping rates
  • Work with vendors to identify top-selling brands/products that are missing from our collection
  • Manage prioritization and implementation of new brands and products with our Product Catalog Team
  • Serve as primary liaison for vendor communications
  • Attend trade shows and other offsite vendor meetings
  • Work with Comoto’s Demand Planning team to pre-book orders, monitor stock levels, and manage overall inventory overages/underages
  • Coordinate with logistics team to diagnose areas of opportunity and work to improve supply chain efficiency
  • Strategically place product in our stores where there is a strong opportunity based on online performance

Qualifications

Our Next Product Category Merchant Has:

  • 5-10 years of industry or retail merchandising, buying, and/or demand planning experience
  • The willingness and ability for occasional domestic and infrequent international travel
  • Strong business, financial, and analytical acumen, including high-level working knowledge of retail math
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Strong negotiation skills and interpersonal skills, especially related to vendor relationships
  • Works effectively without daily direction. Adjusts to multiple and conflicting demands; flexible and adaptive.
