OUR ENGINEERING TEAM

Our engineers develop resilient and scalable solutions on internal projects as well as external projects with our partners across animation, visual effects, mixed reality, social media and game production. All of our engineers contribute to an agile product development lifecycle by applying skills that span from requirements analysis, design, graphics tools, pipeline tools, workflow analysis and pipeline integration.


THE ROLE

As part of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in developing computer-graphics pipeline tools and implementing character rigs. This is the perfect role for someone with practical experience developing and deploying Python libraries and pipeline tools for XR, games, visual effects and/or animation production.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Implement Python scripts and tools for efficient USD workflows
  • Triage and resolve technical issues in the tools
  • Write user and developer documentation for the software you create
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering and art teams internally and at our clients

WHO YOU ARE

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related engineering field
  • 4-6 years experience developing pipeline scripts and tools, and at least 2 of those years specifically in a USD pipeline
  • Solid understanding of USD concepts such as the representation of primitive objects, groups and hierarchies, schemas, layers and composition.
  • Proven experience writing and supporting USD tools in production, including import and export, manipulating scene graph data and metadata, and tracking assets in a collaborative workflow
  • Experience scripting Qt plugins or extensions for common DCC tools, preferably Maya, and as a plus Houdini, Blender, Katana, Substance, and/or game engines
  • Familiarity with commonly used file formats for meshes, images, textures, and simulation caches (glTF, USDZ, FBX, Alembic).
  • Familiarity with production tracking systems such as ShotGrid, a.k.a. Flow Production Tracking*
  • Experience with team development using Agile processes
  • Hands-on experience with one or more source code control systems (Perforce, git)
  • Solid general programming skills including knowledge of software patterns, build systems, and methods for coding high-performance applications
  • Self-motivated with strong communication skills and able to work both in a team and independently
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States

      COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

      • The annual salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 plus equity (per qualifications)

      WHO YOU ARE

      • BS/BA in Computer Science or related engineering field
      • 7-10 years experience developing computer-graphics pipelines and tools; at least 4 of those years in a USD pipeline environment
      • Solid understanding of USD concepts such as the representation of primitive objects, groups and hierarchies, schemas, layers and composition, and a practical understanding of how these USD concepts apply to production workflows.
      • Proven experience writing and supporting USD tools in production, including import and export to/from DCCs, and the manipulation of USD scene data in collaborative workflows
      • Experience using USD schemas to implement custom prim types and/or attributes
      • Proven experience scripting Python/PyQt or C++/Qt plugins for at least one of the following DCC tools (e.g., Maya, Houdini, Blender, Katana) and/or game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine)
      • Experience implementing character rigging and animation pipelines in USD*
      • Experience implementing materials and surfacing pipelines in USD*
      • Experience extending or modifying USD itself via C++*
      • Good understanding of 3D-graphics including mathematical fundamentals such as trigonometry, linear algebra, matrices, vectors and quaternions
      • Deep professional experience in team development using Python, and familiarity with C++
      • Solid general programming skills including knowledge of software patterns, build systems, and optimization for performance and memory footprint
