THE ROLE

As a Senior Quality Engineer at Khan Academy, you’ll be deep in development doing test planning, extensive test development, test automation, and test execution in support of project goals and in collaboration with others on your project team. In addition, you’ll be working closely with product and support teams to advocate for the best possible experience for our users. Someone with strong communication skills and experience in automation and test development at all levels (frontend/backend, white/black box) will excel in this role.

You will:

  • Own test plan and automation development and execution for a cross-functional product team, balancing engineering priorities with user needs
  • Use creativity and deep field knowledge to find, document, and track bugs
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to help prioritize the most crucial user-facing issues
  • Extend e2e test suite using Cypress (web) and Appium and Detox (mobile)
  • Build new test automation where it is lacking

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Software product development, practical experience in automation tools (e.g. Cypress)
  • Hands-on, demonstrable experience testing mobile applications (iOS & Android)  using mobile test automation tools (e.g. Appium).
  • Strong breadth and depth of experience in the technologies you need to do your job (for example: JavaScript/TypeScript for test automation, Python for backend testing, Cypress for web automation, and Appium for mobile testing), and you are constantly learning new testing tools and frameworks.
  • Experience developing code, working in a UNIX/Linux environment and using virtual machines or containers.
  • Familiarity with software development tools like IDEs (VSCode, Eclipse, IntelliJ) and source control (git).
  • A strong understanding of all software testing methodologies, architectures, and tools.
  • Comfortable developing tests in any language consistent with what the engineering team uses.
  • Can integrate testing into an automated CI/CD pipeline (e.g. Jenkins).
  • Good documentation and communication skills so that you can coordinate with current testing efforts to grow and improve our testing processes.
  • An ability to work across the team - with educators, designers, engineers, and product managers - to improve our product quality and reliability.
  • Great intuition for how users like to learn and obstacles that could stand in their way. You have the motivation and courage to tackle any new subject you put your mind to, and to not let go until you've mastered it.

The target salary range for this position is $127,423 - $159,279 USD / $172,188 - $215,235 CAN. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Exceptional performers in this role who make an outsized contribution can make well in excess of this range.  Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete total rewards package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.

We’re seeking a language expert to support our Math and Science offering in Marathi.

ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY INDIA

Khan Academy India aims to deliver a world class user experience that is locally relevant to learners in India and is enabled by a strong on-the-ground team and operations. Our learning system is mastery based, which allows students to master key concepts at a pace that is right for them before moving on to more challenging content. From serving under 500,000 learners in 2016, we are now serving almost 4 million learners a month across our websites, apps and youtube channels. These learners include both independent learners accessing us at home and teacher directed learners in schools. Our focus is to reach the underserved by making our content  accessible in local languages and by working with large public school systems. Khan Academy is available in Hindi, Punjabi, Odia, Marathi, Hinglish, Kannada, Gujarati, Bangla, Tamil, and Assamese.

ABOUT THE INDIA CONTENT TEAM

Our content team in India includes the content creators who make thousands of awesome videos, articles, and practice questions, aligned with the Indian curriculum, to help both teachers and students. We are actively working on content localization in multiple regional languages as well, which means the content you help create will reach a wider number (both nationally and globally), thereby multiplying the impact. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an expert who is fluent in both Marathi and English (fluency = speaking, reading and writing). In addition, the role will involve reviewing and improving Khan Academy's Math and Science content in Marathi medium- so good knowledge of these subjects (Grade 10 level) is required. 

This is a 12-month contract position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviewing and Editing KA Math & Science Marathi content and/or creating and localizing new content (text & videos) as needed; keeping quality metrics in mind (Contextualisation, cohesion, rigor, clarity, pedagogical approach, etc.)
  • Deep-dive into Khan Academy usage data (qualitative and quantitative) to gather user feedback and incorporate it into content.
  • Collect on-ground feedback on content by interacting with state teachers and incorporating the feedback into the content.
  • Localizing the content available in English in your respective language keeping its originality intact.
  • Reading through original material, reviewing it and rewriting it the target language in case needed, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained.
  • Along with State Board and NCERT Books using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
  • Researching on relevant phraseology to find the correct translation.
  • Proofreading and editing final translated versions on the basis of the basic quality parameters (Meaning, Readability, Compliance, Terminology, Consistency and Linguistics).
  • Prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
  • Retaining and developing knowledge on specialist areas of translation.
  • Adapting the Khan Academy’s Style Guide for your language (Marathi).
  • Developing glossary for the specific terminologies to be used in Khan Academy’s localization process and continuously update it with new terminology.

ABOUT YOU

  • You must be a native speaker of the Marathi Language.
  • Knowledge in Math and Science, and a great command of English and Marathi language (if you have studied in Marathi medium curriculum in school, that’s an added advantage).
  • Ability to generate/handle translation/transcreation and review from English to the target Indic language (Marathi).
  • Excellent written skills with a strong command of both English and the target language.
  • Have a strong eye for detail.
  • Eagerness to acquire new knowledge through extensive research.
  • Be able to learn and evolve by accepting feedback from peers and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of various CAT Tools and their functions is preferred. 
  • Previous experience in content creation is a MUST.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience at the K10 or K12 level, giving you a deep empathy with teachers and classrooms (2+ years of teaching experience preferred).
  • You’re a strong communicator, equipped with different strategies for delivering effective feedback. and for articulating how to make great ideas and content even better.
  • A true passion for education and a desire to change the world for the better.

Imagine being a teacher in Sarasota, Florida, four years after the pandemic started, with a classroom full of 6th graders who haven’t had a normal year of school or learning since 2019. We’re looking for a Brand Design Lead to join our External Relations team. The heart of this role is taking requests and requirements and delivering visual design assets to help our Philanthropy, Marketing, and Districts teams reach their most important goals.

As a designer, you are a strong and experienced generalist, with an exceptional eye for visual design, user experience, and storytelling. You have a holistic approach to design and are able to execute both high quality visual design, as well as thorough user-flows and interaction design.

You will play a vital role on the External Relations team, helping us fulfill the mission of the organization: to provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere.   • Collaborate with the Philanthropy, Marketing, and Districts teams to create visual assets that align with marketing strategies and business goals, ensuring consistency across all communications.
  • Design visually engaging digital and print assets for marketing and fundraising campaigns, including email headers, social media visuals, templates, and printed materials like postcards and holiday cards, maintaining a cohesive brand voice.
  • Create impactful marketing and sales materials for the Khan Academy Districts team to support the sales cycle and expand our reach in school districts across the US.
  • Develop clear and compelling visual aids, diagrams, and presentations for donor meetings, effectively communicating our impact and initiatives to key stakeholders.
  • Produce polished digital and print materials for the professional learning team, ensuring educators have engaging resources for training and workshops.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead the conceptualization and development of visual assets for the External Relations team, taking stakeholder requirements and transforming ideas into high-quality designs for a variety of campaigns and initiatives.
  • Deliver outstanding designs that are compelling, emotionally rich, and age/audience appropriate across the brand voice spectrum from playful to professional, while coordinating the production and distribution of assets for both internal and external use to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Maintain your roadmap by sizing and scoping design requests to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively. Communicate project status and manage feedback from project stakeholders.
  • Serve as the in-house Webflow expert, creating and maintaining microsites to support various initiatives, ensuring seamless design integration and optimizing user experiences across the platform.
  • Partner with stakeholder teams to analyze campaign performance, market trends, and competitor strategies. Facilitate conversations and offer insights to help the External Relations team incorporate engaging visual language into cross-channel experiences that enhance user experience and meet strategic goals.
  • Manage the library of brand assets, including templates, guidelines, and design resources, with an emphasis on developing scalable templates to help the External Relations team efficiently deliver consistent, on-brand materials.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years experience in the design industry (ideally experience in both interaction design and visual design) or comparable experience.
  • Outstanding digital and print design skills, with an obsession for cohesive brand identity, market trends, and best practices.
  • Confident designing in Webflow, Adobe CC, and Figma.
  • Able to create custom illustrations and animations that follow brand guidelines.
  • Experience designing for a wide array of audiences, including school-age children, teenagers, young adults, and adults.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Comfortable in ambiguous situations and dynamic environments that run similar to a startup.

Acquire new teachers - 50% of time

  • Know the competitive landscape and market trends to drive new messaging, channels, and innovative ideas.
  • Identify search traffic growth opportunities for content and landing pages. Conduct keyword research and optimize content for search engines.
  • Create and publish high-quality, engaging, and relevant content and landing pages that address the needs of teachers. Develop marketing campaigns to acquire new users.

Engage existing teachers - 50% of time

  • Build a lifecycle marketing plan that will drive teacher engagement and mitigate churn. 
  • Conceive and execute lifecycle email marketing campaigns end-to-end. Utilize data and A/B test results to improve campaign performance.
  • Execute and monitor triggered programs; including campaign building, QA, reporting, and then iterating as needed. 
  • Develop deep understanding of the teacher user journey in order to identify personalized and relevant communication that engages customers; translate insights into effective campaign briefs.
  • Identify customer pain points, ideate solutions to improve user experience, and generate ongoing user-driven insights to inform lifecycle plans and influence product roadmap.

THE ROLE

The Office Manager & Sr. Executive Assistant will manage administrative and operational tasks for our distributed Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and help ensure smooth operations of our headquarters (HQ’s) office located in Mountain View, CA. In this role, you will consistently provide input and counsel to SLT and support HQ’s office operations. You will act as a trusted partner for the senior leadership team, team members, vendors and other external parties. You will partner closely with the Employee Experience Lead, the People Operations (POPs) team, and other members of the administrative staff. 

YOU WILL

Provide SLT Support

  • Manage complex calendars for one or more SLT members
  • Maintain files (both print and digital) for SLT member(s)
  • Prepare expense reports for SLT member(s)
  • Assist with preparation of presentations, reports and documents
  • Manage external relations on behalf of SLT (e.g., speaking events, press interviews, etc.)
  • Act as administrator for tools and systems utilized by the functional teams reporting to SLT
  • Regularly take on additional projects from the SLT upon request, including support work specific to the functional teams in your area

Provide HQ’s Office Support

  • Support all office operational activities - handle procurement, maintain office equipment and inventory, and ensure cleanliness and functionality of all office spaces

THE ROLE

At Khan Academy, we are looking to drive systemic, country-based change internationally through a network of local teams and partners supported by the Khan Academy team. We currently have teams and partners in India, Peru, Brazil, and the Philippines who are focused on implementing Khan Academy and Khanmigo in government schools. 

As we look to grow our international reach and impact, we are seeking a Technical Program Manager. You will be responsible for driving the delivery of complex product releases across multiple product engineering teams that will make our International Product Delivery more streamlined and productive. Your work will empower the product engineering teams to better discern our stakeholder needs across multiple regions, which will enable us to build the best products to serve our mission. 

You will:

  • Plan and execute the International related product initiative across multiple product engineering teams, including being able to take an idea and work cross-functionally to define requirements, identify trade-offs, and scope work 
  • Collaborate with local teams and product teams to ensure roadmaps, dependencies, and risks are visible, by creating effective operating mechanisms. 
  • Track timelines for product launches, pilot rollouts, and district rollouts and ensure product, support, and international network teams are aligned to timelines.
  • Track issues raised from user research, customer success, legal / privacy, and market facing teams, and monitor progress in addressing the issues.
  • Collaborate with the Data analytics team to ensure that we have appropriate data instrumentation and governance to be able to track product usage.
  • Communicate the progress of the International product deliverables to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Manage the technical setup of assigned student rosters, monitoring new partner account activation and providing support for any issues that arise.
  • Support internal team members with technical issues reported by their district partners.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues across Khan Academy in content, localization, data, and local teams 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of Program Management or Project Management experience where you have successfully managed big programs (or multiple projects) from inception to execution
  • Experience working with software engineers and product managers so that you have the technical knowledge to make sound judgments. We do not expect you to apply the technical skills of a software engineer or product skills of a product manager, but having prior experience in a technical role is necessary to be effective in this role.
  • Proficient in program/project management tools (e.g. Gantt charts, spreadsheets, JIRA, Confluence, presentations, etc.); comfortable collaborating in an online/cloud-based environment (e.g. Google Apps, Slack, etc.)
  • The ability to think creatively and use data to solve ambiguous and complex problems

THE ROLE

ABOUT THE INDIA CONTENT TEAM
Our content team in India includes content creators who make thousands of awesome videos, articles, and practice questions aligned with the Indian curriculum to help both teachers and students. We are actively working on content localization in other regional languages as well, which means the content we co-create reaches a wider number (both nationally and globally), thereby quintupling the impact.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Math content creator to lead our efforts of creating syllabus-aligned videos and practice questions primarily aligned for grades 6-12th. 
Important: We are not planning to create test prep content (JEE/NEET) anytime soon. That’s why we aren’t looking for folks who primarily help students crack these exams. Instead, we are looking for folks who love to spark an interest in their subject, ignite curiosity, and provide conceptual understanding.

This is a 12 months contract based role. 

In this role, you would: 

  • Create syllabus-aligned content plans for math, review existing content wherever necessary, create practice questions, and videos wherever necessary.
  • Collaborate with state teachers to create project plans that align with their curriculum. This involves staying up-to-date with the state's academic plans and strategically incorporating ongoing needs during the academic year. (You are expected to travel with the team and conduct workshops where we gather feedback on our content)
  • Continuously iterate and improve content based on feedback received
  • Analyze content usage metrics to identify areas of improvement and optimize content strategy
  • Be willing to travel. (Usually about once in two months, for about 2 to 3 days)

ABOUT YOU

You would be a great fit for the role if

  • You have a combined 4+ years of experience in teaching and creating educational content for NCERT Math. Impeccable communication skills are non-negotiable. 
  • You are a quick learner: As a small team, we are often pulled into different streams. We are looking for fast learners who can always support 6-12th STEM creation whenever necessary. (of course, your primary vertical will be Math) 
  • You have the ability to timebox effortlessly.  As a small team, our greatest strength is the ability to pace up whenever needed by timeboxing on content. This requires us to have the ‘shipping beats perfection’ mindset. 
  • You don’t need to be managed: We lead with context, not control. We expect you to be proactive and ask clarifying questions, provide status updates, loop in your manager when things aren't going your way, etc.

THE ROLE

The Customer Support and Content Testing Specialist is a new role at Khan Academy Kids and will provide exceptional support to our users while ensuring the quality and accuracy of our educational content. You will be the first point of contact for users, assisting them with their inquiries and troubleshooting issues. Additionally, you will work closely with our content and product teams to test and validate educational materials, ensuring they meet our high standards prior to launch.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Support for Parents, Teachers, and Districts (50%):

  • Customer Support: Respond to customer inquiries through Zendesk and the app stores providing prompt and accurate assistance regarding product features, technical issues, and account management. This involves diagnosing issues by replicating problems users are having and coordinating with our small product team when required. You will be the owner of customer support and will manage all the resources we have developed to resolve tickets. Our customers include parents, teachers (preK - 2nd grade), and school district administrators. 
  • Help Center Maintenance:Customers can access online resources to help them resolve an issue without needing to write to us. As part of your role, you will maintain and update customer support documentation, including FAQs, user guides, and troubleshooting articles. You will also write articles highlighting new releases of content and features.
  • Analysis and reporting:Analyze and synthesize trends from customer support tickets to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities, and provide actionable insights to product teams for feature enhancements and bug resolution.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with users, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and retention.

Content Testing and Quality Assurance (30%):

  • Content Testing: Test new content to ensure it is accurate, is working well, and maintains our high bar for quality. Identify and document content errors, inconsistencies, or technical issues, working closely with content creators and developers to resolve them.
  • Content Feedback: Provide constructive feedback to content creators on how to improve the quality and effectiveness of educational materials.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance testing on new content and product features before release to ensure they meet quality and learning standards and provide a seamless user experience.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with content creators, and the product team  to ensure timely resolution of issues and successful deployment of content updates.

Production and Operations Support (20%) 

  • With an in-depth understanding of our product and customers, this role will also work on special projects to support the operations of the Khan Kids team. For example, you might provide support on marketing execution (e.g., copywriting for campaigns or articles) or production needs (audio or thumbnail production).

THE ROLE

Currently we are focused on providing equitable solutions to historically under-resourced communities of learners and teachers, and guided by our Engineering Principles. On the Product team, you might work on projects such as:

  • Integrating state of the art learning science into our product to enable learners and teachers to quickly identify and address learning gaps on the fly.

THE ROLE

This teammate will provide broad-based transaction support including support for school district sales and marketing programs.  You will work with other members of our legal team on issues of diverse scope, and collaborate with business partners such as the District Sales and Marketing teams.  You will report to our Associate General Counsel.

  • Support our District Sales team, including preparation, review and negotiation of school contracts, including Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) 
  • Facilitate improvements to our Sales process to promote efficiency and scalability   
  • Address  legal and compliance aspects of RFP submissions
  • Contribute to foundational improvements, including development of templates, negotiation playbooks, contract guidance, and training materials 
  • Identify use cases that could benefit from repeatable processes, partner with relevant individuals to co-create and document these processes, and implement these processes
  • Act as the business partner to one or more functional teams within Khan Academy
  • Review and negotiate commercial agreements and vendor agreements, both our paper and third party paper contracts
  • Handle other matters as need arises

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Experience as a practicing lawyer with a JD from a U.S. accredited law school 
  • An active membership in good standing of at least one state bar
  • 4-6 years of legal experience, preferably in-house experience at a Software as a Service (SaaS), EdTech, or other tech organization  
  • Experience reviewing, negotiating, and advising on SaaS agreements (on company paper as well as customer paper), with attention to detail, consistency and efficiency
  • Some experience researching and analyzing regulatory compliance matters and related contractual commitments 
  • Strong business judgment by analyzing and communicating business and legal risks, and developing practical solutions to manage risk
  • Experience with building strong relationships and working with teams across a company 
  • Ability to manage expectations and make decisions about how to prioritize the needs of various stakeholders
  • Commitment to develop and maintain a deep understanding of student data privacy regulations (FERPA, COPPA and similar state laws) that impact our operations 
  • Certification in privacy or data security (CIPP or similar) is preferred but not required
