Firmware Engineer Contractor

Mistywest is hiring a Remote Firmware Engineer Contractor

At MistyWest, our Firmware Engineer is a team member who creates programs that interface with and control physical devices. 

They have the ability to identify the core software/firmware requirements of a project, plan the architecture and communicate it with the project team. They will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and designers to complete both product development and research tasks in a variety of industries and market segments.

Right now we are working on fascinating project and looking for some help during next 6-12 months!

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer techniques, software
  • At least 4 years of previous work experience in firmware and software development
  • Proven results developing firmware and embedded software for connected products: BLE, WiFI, LTE
  • Strong embedded Linux experience, both at the Kernel level and Driver level
  • Experience with embedded RTOS for microcontrollers. freeRTOS experience an asset
  • Experience with Unit test, Static Analysis tools and Automated test suites
  • Excellent knowledge of standard software development practices, testing and revision control (Agile software development, Git, Jenkins, CircleCI, QA tools, test-driven development)
  • Experience in developing low-level drivers and application-level firmware
  • Experience bringing up and debugging hardware using logic analyzer, oscilloscope, etc.
  • Experience with Ultra Low Power applications
  • Embedded Linux Application development
  • Linux Driver development
  • Experience with Zephyr development
  • Experience with Nordic BLE Chips: nRF51, nRF52, RF53
  • Well versed in many types of sensors and technologies
  • Ability to function independently with little supervision as well as working effectively in a team environment

    Nice to have:
    • Experience with LTE CAT M1 Modules: Nordic nRF91, Quectel BG95
    • Experience with WiFi Chips: ESP32, Dialog DA16200
    • Experience with GNSS Based Applications
    • Experience with Altium for schematic capture and layout

MistyWest is looking for Mechanical Engineering contractor to join the new project team for next 3-6 months!

Mechanical Engineer is an expert who delivers ingenious mechanical design solutions to impress our clients while meeting project requirements and technical specifications.

They have the ability to conceptualize, develop, design and test mechanical parts and systems. They will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, engineers, and designers to complete both product development and research tasks in a variety of industries and market segments. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering
  • P.Eng. Designation in good standing with EGBC 
  • At least 4 years of previous work experience in mechanical product development
  • Very proficient in 3D modeling (Solidworks preferred)
  • Experience with certifications and compliance testing
  • Experience working with CMs (ideally locally and overseas)
  • DFM (low to high volume) experience with machining, joining, vacuum forming, plastic and metal extrusion, casting, molding (plastic injection in particular), and metal forming
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis/ simulation
  • Hands-on experience assembling prototypes and troubleshooting integrated systems
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in addition to working effectively in a team environment

About the Role

At MistyWest, as our Electronics Engineer, you will work on various electronic designs and cover all stages of the design process from specifications and high-level design, to testing and release, to manufacturing and support.

You will also work closely with multidisciplinary project teams consisting of project managers, technical leads, engineers of various disciplines, and product designers to complete both product development and research tasks in a variety of industries and market segments.

You will collaborate on:

  • Product definition and specifications
  • Detailed design of electronic circuitry
  • Simulations (analog and digital)
  • Schematic capture and PCB design
  • Testing and prototyping
  • Release of manufacturing files and documentation
  • Product support when necessary
  • Other tasks as required or as aligned to your professional goals.

This is an intermediate engineer role in which the candidate will be expected to self-organize and deliver on electronics design for projects at MW It requires a mid-high degree of experience in component selection, circuit design, and high degree of proficiency in schematic capture, and PCB layout (Altium preferred).

  • Proficiency in architecting and contributing to complete electronic systems that often include low-level, highly precise sensors (IMUs, temperature, humidity), discrete power supplies, MCUs or application processors, RAM, flash, high speed interfaces (USB, MIPI, LVDS), and RF components/modules Layouts are often highly complex requiring high density high layer count boards.
  • Test planning and validation experience, as is a demonstrable iterative approach to design, testing and risk mitigation.
  • Understanding of analog and digital design techniques;
  • Knowledge of embedded systems design;
  • High resilience: the ability to push through impossible barriers to solve hard problems;
  • Highly comfortable with ambiguity and embrace failures as learning opportunities;
  • A passion for technology and unquenchable thirst for knowledge and new challenges;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or combination of equivalent diplomas and experience;
  • Open to attending our office in East Vancouver to execute the accountabilities of your role;
  • Availability for business trips.
