The Role

The English Language Arts (ELA) Professional Learning (PL) Manager leads and manages a team of PL Specialists and facilitators, providing direction, support, and constructive feedback to ensure consistent and effective delivery of professional learning. This position oversees onboarding and continuing education for our ELA PL facilitators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment that drives the success of all professional learning goals and initiatives.

In addition to managing, the ELA Professional Learning Manager is responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality professional learning experiences, and continuously improving and expanding the current Open Up Resources professional learning offerings. 

Key Responsibilities & Core Competencies 

  • Manage a team of Professional Learning Specialists, Teacher Leaders in Residence (TLiR) contractors, and Community Coaches to create and deliver ELA in-person, virtual, and asynchronous PL courses and offerings
  • Provide onboarding, continuing education, and support for PL Specialists, facilitators, and PL Coordinators
  • Support the Director of Professional Learning in the refinement and expansion of professional learning offerings and materials 
  • Collaborate with the PL Coordinator to lead effective pre-consultations that identify the needs, challenges and successes of curriculum implementation
  • Analyze feedback from professional learning participants, district leaders, and internal stakeholders to improve the design and delivery of professional learning
  • Effectively deliver new ELA PL offerings provided by Open Up Resources, using this experience to refine and expand current ELA PL offerings
  • Identify areas of improvement to refine the quality process for the organization's overall professional learning offerings
  • Ability to self-manage time, tasks, and to be flexible while working in a remote environment
  • Foster a helpful and authentic dialogue between district leaders, users of the curriculum, and internal stakeholders

Job Qualifications

  • Experience managing or coaching a team of virtual individuals 
  • Minimum of 2 years of classroom experience implementing an OUR ELA curriculum  (EL Education K–8 Language Arts or Bookworms K–5 Reading & Writing)
  • Demonstrated expertise in ELA content and pedagogy, with a solid understanding of the Science of Reading, effective instructional strategies, and curriculum design to effectively support educators and enhance student learning
  • Ability to train and lead a group of educators to understand OUR ELA curriculum
  • Proven experience in delivering impactful professional learning sessions for educators, including designing, facilitating, and evaluating training programs that enhance instructional practices and support student achievement.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and engage diverse audiences through dynamic and interactive delivery methods, virtually, in-person, and asynchronously.

The Role

The Software Engineer III position will report to the Managing Director of Product Engineering in the Operations team. 

What to Expect 

On day 1:

  • Show up ready to pair with a teammate to get your development environment running, walk through your first code change, and deploy that change to the production servers

In your first 30 days:

  • Get to know your teammates and collaborators in engineering, product, product management, and our academics team.
  • Gain experience and familiarity with our codebases, conventions, and processes.
  • Pair regularly with teammates (as both driver and navigator).
  • Begin taking on solo tasks.
  • Open your first pull request, and deploy it to production after review and QA approval.

In your first 90 days:

  • Regularly complete solo tasks from start to production.

About Our Code 

Aside from occasional dev-ops and internal-systems tasks, most of our team’s work is focused on two Ruby on Rails applications: a custom content management system (CMS), and an authentication gateway for our web curriculum. Within the context of those apps, here are some of the things we do:

  • Model a full-course curriculum, based on raw source content (e.g. in Word docs or XML exports), to a granular enough level that we can maintain, organize, report on, and flexibly re-constitute the content in that curriculum.
  • Write custom ETL scripts to import (and validate the import of) raw source content into those models.
  • Create views and queries to generate beautiful and well-structured presentations of the modeled content, for multiple export targets, such as print, web, and third-party platforms.
  • Ensure connectivity and high-quality UX for integrations between our web curriculum and other platforms.
