We are looking for a Software Engineer (Distributed Systems)

Compensation: $160,000 - $215,000 (including superannuation), employee equity plan grant & world class benefits.

We're seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer who has experience in highly scalable and distributed system to join our team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services that is the main orchestration layer behind Rokt's selection systems.

About the role: 

  • Writing high quality and maintainable code in a modern programming language like Go, Scala and TypeScript.
  • Understanding of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform and experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes for deploying and managing backend applications.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, containerization and orchestration tools will contribute to the seamless deployment and maintenance of our backend infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and implement and maintain scalable solutions. 
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, document technical designs, and present ideas clearly. Manage priorities, deadlines and deliverables. Own and operate with autonomy in solving problems, always keeping the customer at the forefront.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a backend engineering role designing, building, and operating modern distributed systems, using modern programming languages like C#, Golang, Java or Scala. 
  • Extensive experience working with cloud-based applications, containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • System architecture design experience and understanding; space/time complexity, API contract design. 
  • Good understanding of distributed and scalable systems - you can design, build and maintain complex systems with a desire to work on deep and interesting technical problems.
  • Ability to work in fast paced teams and comfort in communicating remotely through chat, docs, video calls, and other collaborative online tools.

As a Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) focusing on MLOps, you will maintain and scale our TensorFlow and Kubeflow-based machine learning pipeline, enhancing its reliability and efficiency. In this role, you will optimize deployment processes to reduce setup time and boost pipeline scalability to support throughput as we scale. Working directly with ML engineers, software engineers, and infrastructure teams, you will form cross-functional units to automate workflows, monitor model performance, and address real-time issues. Leverage your expert software engineering skills and comprehensive understanding of the machine learning lifecycle to drive the seamless integration and ongoing enhancement of our AI solutions, ensuring robust performance in production environments.

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial software development experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems.
  • Expert-level software engineering skills in a complex environment, and the ability to be a polyglot engineer and pick up new languages as need, as we use Go, Scala, Python and others, so the ability to work across multiple languages is essential.
  • Deep knowledge and experience working with multi petabyte-scale distributed systems, using Spark and other open-source data technologies at scale
  • Extensive experience working on some of the most complex and large-scale systems in the market is essential, as we're looking for someone who can come into Rokt and level up on a system that will handle more than 4 billion unique transactions in 2024
  • Extensive experience working with cloud-based applications and architecture (Rokt’s systems are hosted in 4 separate regions over 14 markets, all on AWS).
  • Strong system architecture design experience and understanding; space/time complexity, API contract design and stewardship, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS/GCP).

As a Software Engineer on the ML Platform and Operations team, you will play a crucial role in improving our machine learning architecture and operational processes. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the machine learning infrastructure that supports all our machine learning initiatives. You will collaborate with data scientists and engineers to support efficient data access, model management, and deployment.

  • Collaborate with data scientists to understand model requirements and translate them into production-ready solutions.
  • Contribute to the advancement of Rokt’s machine learning infrastructure by working on projects such as the feature store, model serving platform, and model registry, among others.
  • Manage and enhance the machine learning pipelines for model training, evaluation, and deployment, aiming to simplify the creation and deployment process while improving cost efficiency and runtime.
  • Design and implement initiatives to improve reliability and latency for the real-time serving of features and models.
  • Implement best practices for version control, CI/CD, and automated testing of machine learning models.
  • Manage cloud resources and services related to machine learning, including data storage and compute instances.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and tools in the machine learning ecosystem, and recommend improvements to existing systems.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

We are looking for a Customization Specialist

Compensation: $60,000- $75,000 salary, employee equity plan grant & world class benefits.

As our Customization Specialist, you’ll receive requests from our merchants to customize their UpCart Cart Drawer. Doing so involves writing CSS, HTML, and JavaScript code (using UpCart’s Public API) to provide the requested customizations to our merchants. You’ll also be tasked with keeping an open line of communication with the merchant. 

About the role

  • Customizing merchant cart drawers with CSS, HTML, and JavaScript
  • Communicating progress, delays, and impossible requests to the merchant
  • Creation and maintenance of public customization documentation 
  • Providing customer support if no other tasks are available

About you

  • Must be located in Edmonton, Alberta
  • 1+ years of experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Strong reading comprehension
  • Great written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Constantly looking for new ways to improve and accelerate the function
  • Good knowledge of Shopify or Zendesk would be great but not required

As a Principal Technical Recruiter at Rokt, you will lead recruitment efforts for key technical roles across the organization. We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer

As a Lead Security Engineer, you are someone has some experience leading a team at a fast-past startup or in a recognised cybersecurity consulting firm, leading delivery of Cloud-first products or have been involved in the re-architecture of existing Cloud infrastructure towards Cloud-native design patterns that are horizontally scalable with always-up guarantees.

You'll be able to drive design decisions to establish a ‘paved road’ for the business to be able to deliver software and services using secure-by-default and secure-by-design patterns where security is automatically baked in, with a vision for what a highly secure Kubernetes environment and modern SSDLC process should like and are excited to get an opportunity to have the autonomy and remit to take charge and help drive change at Rokt to deliver on that vision.

About the Role:

  • Lead the existing Security Engineering team in Sydney, whom are focused on Cloud, Data, Network, and Application security
  • Assist in the design and delivery of a secure-by-default and secure-by-design core operating environment based on ‘Zero Trust’ principles
  • Assist in the design and delivery of a standardized SDLC process with automated CI/CD pipelines to provide security assurance and address supply chain risks throughout the development lifecycle
  • Develop security standards, guidelines and architectural patterns that facilitate rapid deployment of new applications and services while maintaining security best practices.
  • Define a comprehensive Cloud security strategy and change management process, ensuring all infrastructure, configuration, applications and policies are managed ‘as code’ and pass necessary security gates.
  • Ensure all data stored in the Cloud is discovered and appropriately governed and protected in accordance with compliance requirements and business goals..

About You:

  • 8+ years in security engineering, and 3+ years as a hands on team lead or manager.
  • Navigated large scale and multi-Cloud environments, in active-active configurations with an expectation of zero downtime, using either or both AWS & GCP, with strong expertise in Kubernetes and familiarity with CNCF projects (Istio/Envoy, Cillium, OPA, Tetragon, …)
  • Good understanding of security technologies, including network security, cryptography, workload identity and authorization, secure coding practices, cloud security, and more. Stay updated on the latest security threats and mitigation techniques.
  • Some software engineering background including coding patterns and foundational algorithms
  • Experience maturing a software delivery pipeline using modern supply chain best practices and technologies, including immutable builds, hermetic builds, SLSA, OpenSSF, SBOM, CBOM, code signing, etc.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer

Compensation: $270,000 - $300,000 salary, employee equity plan grant & world class benefits.

As a Staff Full-Stack Engineer you will be part of the Upsells Org, driving engineering for some of our highest visibility and most impactful products. You will be working closely with other software engineers and product managers in your team on solving interesting problems and driving business values.

About the Role:

    • Design, develop, test, deploy and improve code that solves real world problems
    • Own complex product features end to end across the stack - with a focus on customer impact
    • Operate with autonomy in solving problems
    • Collaborate with other teams to deliver new products
    • Create fast, scalable and easy to use applications
    • Build libraries and frameworks that others can use
    • Support and mentor other engineers on best practices, architecture, and quality

About You:

    • 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering
    • Strong commercial experience in one of following languages: Go, Java, C#, Python, along with Javascript, Typescript, React. You have written a lot of performant easy-to-maintain code using best practices.
    • Extensive experience with AWS/GCP/Azure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
    • An eagerness to work and learn in the open and share your learnings with your teammates.
    • A willingness and comfort communicating remotely through chat, docs, video calls, and other collaborative online tools

We are looking for a Software Engineer - Platform Engineering

Compensation:$160,000 - $270,000 including superannuation, employee equity plan grant & world class benefits.

Rokt is looking for an experienced software engineer to be part of a team responsible for designing and building the Rokt Infrastructure which provides a a performant, scalable and globally distributed platform as a service. You will become intimate with the architecture of our systems and be responsible for building new platform features, tools and services that ultimately power and scale the Rokt Platform. Ability to quickly learn and become familiar with our Kubernetes-based platform including Istio, Kafka, Spark, Cassandra, Flyte.

About the Role:

  • Co-design, deploy, manage, optimise, and automate application infrastructure to contribute to Rokt Infrastructure Platform expansion
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering teams and ensure the platform meets their requirements
  • Provide guidelines to engineering teams based on infrastructure principles; enable them to deliver services that are highly available, secure, performant and cost effective
  • Enable cost governance by providing full cost transparency to team members; provide recommendations for cost efficiency
  • Automate tasks through appropriate tooling and bespoke software solutions

About You:

  • 5+ years as a software engineer
  • Commercial experience developing in a modern programming language (Golang, Python, Java, C#, Ruby)
  • Solid experience with cloud infrastructure, monitoring, and tooling like AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Istio
  • Experience building solutions in distributed systems for high volume transaction processing
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with experience instilling a culture of operational maturity
  • Experience in defensive programming, circuit breakers, resilience frameworks, fault tolerance, and self-healing mechanisms of services would be amazing

We are looking for a Software Engineer

At AfterSell, we are building Shopify apps that improve AOV (average order volume) for merchants through highly customizable upselling & cross-selling products that target every part of the buyer journey, including the cart, checkout, post-purchase page and the thankyou & order status pages. As a full-stack engineer you will work on both of our apps, AfterSell and Upcart, and implement tasks from start to finish. Everyone on our development team is involved in all parts of the technology that enables our company. For this specific role, we are looking for high performing individual contributors

We want to encourage everyone to learn new skills and collaborate with the team to produce high-quality code that will last. You’ll have the opportunity to make choices on implementation, design, and architecture. 

About the role: 

  • You’ll be responsible for completing features from start to finish and owning the outcome while having a solid understanding of our codebase
  • You’ll be working on our two Shopify apps, AfterSell and Upcart (which we’re planning to merge together)
  • You’ll be involved in all parts of the technology that enables our company, which will allow you to gain a breadth of experience as an individual contributor
  • You’ll be expected to communicate with the rest of the engineering team and also with customer success, merchant success and occasionally high-value customers

About you:

  • 3-5 years of experience in Full-stack web development, preferably with React JS, JavaScript + TypeScript, HTML/CSS
  • Design and Autonomy: Possess a strong design acumen to create aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly interfaces, with the capability to independently handle full feature development—from concept through deployment, including front-end, back-end, database, and infrastructure.
