Job Description

The Senior Staff Accountant will report directly to the Business Unit Controller of Watertown | Milwaukee | Broadview | Iron Ridge and play a key role in the month-end closing process. This includes ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and reports, while also performing detailed reviews and analyses of general ledger activity. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for identifying discrepancies, resolving variances, and maintaining the integrity of financial records in accordance with established accounting principles. The ideal candidate must be self-driven, capable of working independently, and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support the finance team's objectives.

  • Lead and oversee the month-end closing process, ensuring timely preparation and accuracy of financial statements.
  • Perform reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including accruals and other key entries.
  • Manage corporate programs such as Travel & Expense (T&E), Purchasing Card (P-Card), and fleet operations.
  • Oversee reporting and maintenance for fixed asset projects, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance.
  • Prepare and analyze the slow and obsolete inventory report, including calculating and allocating overhead costs.
  • Conduct cost analysis in collaboration with various departments, ensuring appropriate General Ledger (GL) and Profit & Loss (P&L) coding.
  • Supervise the annual physical inventory count and ensure its accuracy.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the General Ledger and segmentation processes within operational plants.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to support the Controller and Division Controller.
  • Manager corporate reporting requirements, including environmental and tax compliance.
  • Learn, understand, and implement ITW Financial Policy and ITW Business Model.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in public accounting or auditing is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and generate comprehensive financial reports.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

    About the department

    The Order-to-Cash Accounting A/R Staff processes all facets of Cloudflare’s worldwide Billing and Accounts Receivable (A/R) functions. This role facilitates prompt, correct, and complete billing, collection, and cash application of Cloudflare receivables to support preparation of accurate financial statements, compliance with customer contracts, and optimization of cash flow. Additionally, this position participates in certain regulatory compliance activities including sales tax assessment and reporting, and unclaimed property remittance.

    What You'll Do

    • Direct preparation and issuance of customer invoices to ensure prompt and accurate billing in compliance with contract terms.
    • Oversee response to billing and A/R inquiries in a manner that cultivates a culture of exemplary customer service both internal and external.
    • Support Order-to-Cash Accounting team by running credit checks and monitoring credit worthiness of new and existing customers.
    • Participate in month-end close processes associated with Accounts Receivable to support timely and accurate preparation and delivery of financial statements.
    • Facilitate cash receipt and application processes to ensure prompt and accurate deposit of all funds and application to customer accounts.
    • Execute process for managing and refunding customer credit balances in a timely manner, partnering with Accounts Payable to escalate or resolve any A/R related unclaimed property issues.
    • Oversee maintenance of customer account information within Billing System(s) to ensure up-to-date address, terms, tax, and contact information.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various systems projects including selection, implementation, and upgrades to A/R and Billing systems.

    Experience

    Overview 

    We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join Electric. You will be a critical piece of our Finance & Accounting department with an opportunity to grow within the organization. In this position, you will handle all accounting operations within the company, and verify financial records and transactions.     • Work cross-functionally on strategic company projects/initiatives and apply critical thinking skills to provide solutions that drive company performance
    • Work with external auditors for year-end financial statement audits
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
    • Be in charge of the monthly revenue accounting processes in adherence to ASC 606
    • Coordinate with other departments to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues

    Who you are

    As Senior Revenue Accountant, you will report to the Director of Revenue Accounting and be responsible for analyzing and reviewing complex revenue transactions, as well as continually refining our revenue recognition policies, and drive revenue related month-end close activities. You will provide direction on technical revenue accounting issues, drive internal and external reporting related to revenue accounting, and explain the accounting impact to your partners on various teams including Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, and Finance during the contract negotiation process. 

    What you’ll do:

    • Perform revenue recognition activities including application of relevant GAAP to arrangements
    • Review customer arrangements for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and revenue recognition accounting standards and summarize customer agreements with non-standard terms impacting revenue recognition
    • Review draft customer contracts and guide the business on deal structuring and expected revenue recognition outcomes of various structures.  This task often has very short deadlines requiring re-prioritizing of your calendar.
    • Manage monthly revenue-related tasks and analysis including monthly revenue close processes (e.g. reconcile revenue, reserves, deferred revenue, etc.)
    • Prepare journal entries to record appropriate revenue treatment in accordance with ASC 606
    • Conduct technical accounting research and provide guidance on revenue recognition matters, ensuring Company’s compliance with ASC 606 guidelines.
    • Review and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP
    • Assist with the adoption of SOX controls
    • Support internal and external auditors during interim reviews and year-end audits, addressing any revenue-related inquiries or issues
    • Identify areas for process improvements in revenue accounting and contribute to their implementation
    • Participate in or manage ad-hoc projects
    • Support integration of revenue accounting and order-to-cash core process for newly acquired entities
