Overview 

Electric’s Finance Team is seeking a Manager of Accounting to oversee the accounting team and ensure the accuracy and transparency in our financial reporting. Reporting to the Controller, this role will focus on overseeing the company's accounting operations, developing internal control guidelines, and providing financial analysis and insights to inform strategic decision-making.

This is a highly visible and strategic position that has the opportunity to shape cross-functional initiatives, foster collaboration among departments, and deliver impactful financial insights that drive the company's overall success.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in financial management, demonstrate keen analytical skills, and have a proven track record of leading teams to achieve organizational goals.

What you’ll do 

  • Manage and oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, payroll, and utilities
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles
  • Coordinate and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Maintain a cohesive accounting team by recruiting, training, and coaching employees
  • Produce financial reports and present findings and recommendations to upper management
  • Participate in financial standards setting and forecast process
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with external auditors and provide required support

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting. CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a mix of Public Accounting and startup or tech environment
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting theory and financial reporting
  • Proficient in Netsuite
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a team
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

As a direct report of the Vice President, Finance, the Senior Manager, Accounting ensures effectiveness and compliance of the accounting functions for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). The Senior Manager, Accounting, manages fiscal functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ethical standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Manage general accounting function, ensuring best practices for systems and procedures are documented and implemented in accordance with GAAP, for all BBBSA financial/accounting processes

● Assist in maintaining policies and procedures and ensure all assigned responsibilities are performed in an efficient manner meeting established timeliness and quality standards on a day-to-day basis

● Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual closing reports focusing on data accuracy, correct project allocations, cash flow, and the minimization of adjusting journals. This includes bank and balance sheet reconciliations, payroll, aging reports, and corrections action plans.

● Prepare monthly risk assessments and highlight risk areas for leadership to consider.

● Review transactions posted Intacct and highlight data accuracy and integrity issues and follows up with parties concerned to resolve outstanding issues promptly.

● Engage and partner with department leads and teams to ensure compliance with BBBSA accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles in data processing.

● Manage accounting, banking, and reporting systems access ensuring that the right people have access to timely and needed information.

● Establish and meet deadlines, provide consistent feedback to the VP, Finance on the status of deliverables, summary of action taken and planned next steps to effectively reach departmental goals.

● Prepare annual audit document request list and schedules as requested by the auditors.

POSITION SUMMARY:

About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive, highly motivated, outcome-oriented Accounting Leader to join our Revenue Accounting team. This role will support the accounting close process and assist with the launch of new products. The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Has a strong understanding of ASC 606
  • Pays close attention to detail, with the ability to multitask
  • Has the ability to work independently, while also being able to lead other team members
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams such as Sales, FP&A, Legal, and Revenue Operations

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Oversee the accounting close process, including review and approval of revenue-related journal entries and timely review of reconciliations and flux analysis
  • Review complex revenue contracts and make determinations on revenue recognition approach
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, Finance, Technical Accounting, and Revenue Operations teams to advise on non-standard contract terms and billing arrangements, while helping to develop operational best practices
  • Provide guidance and support to both Finance and business partners on revenue recognition matters, including revenue implications of new business initiatives and contract negotiations
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 606 (or relevant accounting standards) and other regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors to support annual audit procedures
  • Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in revenue accounting processes through automation and system enhancements
  • Lead initiatives to streamline workflows, eliminate manual tasks, and improve controls in the revenue recognition process

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of experience in a revenue accounting role, with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Large pre-ipo or public company experience is a plus
  • Background in public accounting (Big 4 experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of SOX requirements
  • Thorough understanding of ASC 606 and ASC 340
  • Experience in the technology or SaaS industry is a plus
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and collaborating effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex contracts and financial data
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-financial audiences
  • Experience with Netsuite & Zuora, advanced Excel skills, knowledge of SQL are a plus

Our cash compensation amount for this role is between $131,000 & $155,000 in San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.


Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 daysper week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

  • Address technical accounting matters relating to SEC filings, including but not limited to conducting peer research via Intelligize.
  • Drive resolution to complex accounting issues.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including minimum of 5 years in a Big 4 public accounting firm required

  • Direct experience with PCAOB standards and SOX requirements required

You'll collaborate with executive management, external auditors, and our SEC reporting team to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and drive continuous process improvements. As a Accounting Manager Operating Expenses, you will:

  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on complex Opex accounting issues and financial reporting matters, providing guidance to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee key accounting functions, which will include managing and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations for leases, fixed assets, accrued expenses, payroll, capitalized software, stock compensation and other accounting areas. 
  • Supervise general ledger functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Assess and improve current accounting practices and procedures, and make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Develop and mentor staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Create and implement a process for monthly fluctuation analysis of critical and material accounts.
  • Provide support for accounting transactions for monthly or quarterly deliverables.
  • Support audit activities by assisting with quarterly and year-end financial audits as well as the annual financial/control audit.

  • Demonstrated strong expertise in operational expense (Opex) accounting principles and accurate GL reporting. 
  • Effectively communicating financial insights and recommendations to the accounting team, leadership, and external auditors.

The Revenue Accounting Manager will be responsible for accounting, reconciling and reporting revenue in accordance with US GAAP revenue accounting standards, Company policies and procedures as well as assisting with system clean from the implementation of a new revenue recognition software. This is a hands-on role that requires ownership and responsibility for periodic and ad hoc reconciliations of various revenue related areas including month end-close, year-end financial statement and related footnotes as well as customer cohort analysis. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end accounting and reporting of revenue in accordance with US GAAP ASC 606 across the consolidated company
  • Complete month and year-end closing processes and prepare journal entries as applicable:
    • Lead the audit process as it relates to revenue, including managing the auditing requests, support and financial statement disclosure preparation
    • Reconcile monthly revenue to contract detail, including analyzing cash collections, performance obligations and various reporting metrics
    • Investigate and review unique revenue recognition events, including point-in-time (device shipments), over-time (subscription services), percent-of-completion (implementation services) and variable consideration (returns)
    • Perform balance sheet rollforwards of contract asset, deferred revenue and capitalized commissions
    • Be proactive and take initiative when performing tasks to help maintain the integrity of the financial statements and increase efficiencies
  • Assist in system implementation clean up as it relates to the previous implementation of Oracle Revenue Management Cloud Services (“RMCS”)
    • Investigate and validate large volumes of data to determine issues and corrections required of the revenue accounting system
    • Test and reconcile configuration and system process to determine best methods for corrections of the revenue accounting systems.
    • Assist in building checks and balances controls with new system
  • Calculate Standalone Selling Price (SSP) on a periodic basis for use in RMCS allocations.
  • Review non-standard contracts to determine revenue recognition, contract terms and other relevant information
  • Maintain an up to date and thorough knowledge of the technical accounting policies, including Nextiva’s internal Revenue Recognition Policy
  • Participate in process development and continuous improvement projects

What You Will Do

TetraScience is currently looking for an Accounting Manager who can take much of the day-to-day accounting operations off the Controller's plate and help drive advancements with processes through accounting technologies. You must be analytically inclined and data-driven to develop strategies and processes to manage the complexity of a fast-growing software business where priorities can change quickly. You should also enjoy problem solving, have an entrepreneurial spirit and drive, and have the desire to constantly exceed expectations. As a person with strong ASC 606 experience, you will be expected to work daily with sales team personnel and others as needed. You will interact closely with all levels of management, staff and outside service providers and assist the Controller with employee development.

Your impact

We are seeking a highly motivated Revenue Accounting Manager to join the accounting team and support the growing Handshake business. In this role you will drive all aspects of revenue and receivables operations, build the team of talented professionals, lead the system automation efforts and partner with cross-functional Handshake teams.

Your role

  • Manage the monthly revenue close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of revenue recognition. Prepare and review revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
  • Oversee  day-to-day order to cash operations, including customer invoicing, cash applications, collections, customer account reconciliations
  • Prepare and analyze accounts receivable aging reports, monitor customer accounts for overdue payments, follow up on delinquent accounts, and take appropriate actions to collect outstanding balances
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of revenue recognition policies and procedures in compliance with ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Legal, Finance) to review and interpret customer contracts for proper revenue treatment, customer billing and collections process
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance management to junior team members
  • Continuously improve revenue accounting processes and internal controls through driving system automation initiatives, developing operating procedures
  • Oversee sales tax filings process
  • Actively participate in external audit and respond to revenue-related audit inquiries,  assist in the preparation of external financial statements and disclosures related to revenue.

Your experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Accounting, including minimum 1 year management experience in a fast paced high growth environment
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP, particularly ASC 606
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and ERP systems. Experience with NetSuite is preferred. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Salesforce experience is a plus
  • Previous public accounting experience with a Big-4 firm is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA or other internationally recognized accounting certification are a plus
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of transactions, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

Compensation range

  • $125,000-$150,000

    APECAEL was founded in 2004 to save coffee farms in Loja. Due to a decrease in coffee prices, many growers saw coffee as a non-profitable business and some abandoned their production altogether. APECAEL was able to stabilize their production and sell coffee at a fair price. In 2016, APECAEL expanded, building a facility to roast, grind, and store coffee. Currently, APECAEL gathers members’ coffee to sell in the national and international markets.

    APECAEL’s long term goals are to increase coffee production and purchase better harvesting equipment. Currently their Board of Directors has two women and one youth, as part of their goals to increase youth participation.

    In order to meet their goals and grow their business opportunities, APECAEL needs to understand how to interpret basic financial documents to make sound financial decisions. APECAEL’s members and Board of Directors understand they need to know what the financial reports say in order to make better decisions for themselves and the association. However, there is a misunderstanding about what current financial reports say and how they can use this information.

    Duration: 2 Weeks (August to October 2021)

    ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Analyze the current financial and accounting management practices for the associates and Board of directors and provide constructive feedback about improvement opportunities.  
    • Based on the analysis above, provide training on essential financial management for associates, including how to create and interpret basic financial documents.  
    • Provide training on business financial management and its influence on decision-making for the Board of Directors. 
    • Teach participants about protocols used in financial audits. 

    Qualifications

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

    • The volunteer should have experience in accounting and financial management and the ability to transmit this knowledge using non-technical language.
