Job Description

The Tech Lead - Payments role is the architect and lead developer for our Point of Sale payments integrations into gateways and payment providers such as Stripe, Global Payments, and other payment processors that MyTime integrates into.  This role is also responsible for integrations into hardware such as credit card terminals and other complex point of sale hardware systems.  The MyTime application is used by millions of consumers and tens of thousands of employees each month to interact and transact with one another in the modern era. Engineers at MyTime are responsible not just for writing code, but ensuring that it gets deployed and works properly in production.

We have created a cohesive, collaborative team environment that works hard to deliver on our innovation roadmap and meet pressing customer commitments.  We are looking for individuals who want to both learn and mentor others. While we work independently, we support each other through frequent code and design reviews, daily stand-ups, and pair programming which facilitates learning and reducing friction in our nightly release schedule.

You should also know how to have productive technical discussions and be ready to continuously iterate on features based on feedback from our analytics as well as user feedback.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, debug and document new and existing components to ensure that software meets business, quality and operational needs.

  • Lead technical development with a team of talented backend developers who work on our Point of Sale and Payments team

  • Drive and participate in code and document reviews, mentoring team in best practices.

  • Collaborate with peer organizations, devops, support organizations on technical issues and provide guidance.

  • Interpret and translate business needs to technical requirements and make accurate estimates.

  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality and performance is achieved.

  • Work with team to troubleshoot code level problems quickly and efficiently.

  • Focus on scalability, security, and availability of all applications and processes.

  • Manage technical roadmap and technical debt elimination, balancing time, resource, and quality constraints to achieve business and strategic goals and requirements.

  • Motivate and educate team members on coding standards and best practices. both within the team and as part of the architecture group.

Qualifications

 

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years building Single Page Applications; Ruby on Rails is required and knowledge of Angular is a plus
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL

  • Some experience with Memcache and ElasticSearch is preferred

  • Some experience with AWS products (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, ELB) is preferred

  • Comfortable writing test suites and specs in our test-driven environment

  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization across the stack

  • Self motivator with strong communication skills

  • Degree in computer science or a related field is preferred, but not required

All of our infrastructure is maintained in Terraform and hosted on Azure, leveraging different managed services ( CosmoDB, AKS etc… ).

About the team

As a backend software engineer on the Magic Visibility team, you will contribute across a wide range of technologies and systems to deliver new products that provide network visibility and insights to our customers. You will help build and grow a globally distributed network data collector and the pipeline that delivers, processes, and stores the massive stream of data. You will build backend services that analyze this network data and correlate it with a multitude of other data sources within Cloudflare. You will build APIs and integrations with other products such as DDoS mitigation, Magic Transit, and Magic Firewall to enable customers to take action on insights we surface. You will scale all of these technologies to enable access to these products to all Cloudflare customers.

  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $162,000 - $198,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $154,000 - $188,000

About the role

We are hiring engineers of all experience levels across many of our teams. Some of the things our teams work on include:

  • A Linux kernel-based networking dataplane which ingests and forwards traffic from some of the largest networks in the world
  • A userspace networking service which acts as a hub between our Network Services and Zero Trust systems, enabling every customer to access every product
  • Network software running on a hardware appliance that provides zero touch connectivity to the Cloudflare network and SD-WAN functions
  • Next-generation firewall functions implemented across Linux netfilter, eBPF, and userspace packet processing
  • Flow and log collection, correlation, and analytics systems to provide customers with unparalleled visibility into their own networks
  • Control plane systems which allow customers to simply express complex network configurations

As a Software Engineer on our team, you will work across a wide range of technologies and systems to deliver new features, improve performance, and increase the scalability of our Network Services products. You’ll build, deploy, and operate your team’s systems on top of one of the largest edge networks in the world. You’ll partner with some of the best engineers and product managers to solve big problems that have a meaningful impact in the lives of our customers and users.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. There are multiple levels open on the team, both mid & senior level.

Senior Level (4)

  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $196,000 - $240,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $187,000 - $229,000.
  • For Colorado-basedhires: Estimated annual salary of $168,000 - $206,000.

Mid Level (2 - 3)

  • For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $115,000 - $167,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $133,000 - $188,000
  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $140,000 - $198,000

General Summary

As Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for creating and supporting sites and services that power our products, owning applications from inception through development, test, and release to production.     As an engineer on our team, you’ll architect and solve complex problems that will directly influence the direction of the credit card space.
