About the role…

As the Manager of Data Engineering (Product Manager for Internal EDP), you will drive the vision and execution of Acquia's Enterprise Data Platform (EDP). This internal product is a critical component of our data-driven strategy, enabling real-time analytics, AI, and predictive insights. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, business, and product teams, to translate complex requirements into scalable technical solutions.

You must possess both a deep understanding of data engineering and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling manner to a diverse audience. With an entrepreneurial mindset, you will spearhead the development and adoption of the EDP across internal teams, acting as a key advocate for this internal product. Your success will depend on your ability to collaborate across functions, gather requirements, and effectively sell the vision of the platform.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Product Ownership: Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Acquia’s Enterprise Data Platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives and user needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, data science, business, and product teams to gather requirements and ensure successful implementation of data pipelines and platform features.
  • Intrapreneurial Leadership: Drive the adoption of the EDP within the organization by effectively communicating its value and working to overcome any resistance. Champion the platform internally as a key driver for real-time analytics and AI/ML applications.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders across various business units, managing expectations, priorities, and timelines.
  • Technical Understanding: Work closely with the data engineering team to ensure that the technical architecture of the platform is robust, scalable, and meets business requirements. You will be expected to understand the underlying technology, including ETL pipelines, data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time analytics.
  • Agile Product Management: Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, and sprint reviews with engineering teams. Define user stories, prioritize the backlog, and ensure timely delivery of features.
  • Advocacy and Communication: Clearly communicate the product vision and the technical details of the platform to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, from engineering teams to C-level executives. Ensure alignment and buy-in from all parts of the organization.
  • Market Research & Innovation: Stay up to date on the latest trends in data engineering, analytics, and cloud technologies to inform the development of the platform. Constantly seek opportunities to innovate and improve the platform’s capabilities.
  • Product Metrics: Define success metrics and KPIs to measure platform adoption, data quality, and business impact. Continuously analyze these metrics to inform future development priorities.
  • User Feedback: Gather and prioritize user feedback through surveys, interviews, and usability studies, ensuring the platform evolves to meet the needs of its users.

Skills:

  • Excellent Communication: Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, with a particular focus on the value of the EDP.
  • Data Engineering Understanding: Solid understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, data lakes (S3), data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake), and real-time analytics tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven experience working with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Intrapreneurial Spirit: A self-starter who is comfortable championing new ideas, building support for them, and leading initiatives with little oversight.
  • Product Management: Experience with Agile methodologies, managing product backlogs, writing user stories, and prioritizing development sprints.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and navigate complex organizational structures.
  • Technical Background: Understanding of the technical intricacies of data pipelines and platforms, with the ability to work closely with engineers to make informed technical decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, or data engineering leadership roles. A total of more than 8 years of experience.
  • Proven track record of managing data products or platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and services like S3, Snowflake, and data pipeline orchestration tools.
  • Familiarity with Meltano, Dagster, dbt, or similar ETL/ELT and orchestration frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, including managing backlogs, sprint planning, and grooming sessions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of a product vision.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills, with the ability to persuade and engage stakeholders.
  • CSPO or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification is a plus.
