The Opportunity:

commercetools’ represents the collective work of numerous teams; each team building a fraction of the overall platform to create a singular, powerful platform for our users. The Special Delivery team focuses our energy on enabling all these teams, building in their own way, to deliver high quality software to the world.

Your Mission:

  • Communicate decisions and actions effectively and asynchronously to the team
  • Assist team members proactively and with priority
  • Ability to divide work tickets into achievable tasks and milestones for the rest of the team.
  • Act as a consistent source of knowledge and counsel for other engineers
  • Foster a culture in which the team feels psychologically safe to openly share their opinions
  • Start and execute a technical Request for Comments (RFC) process to evaluate several alternatives, lead a decision, and collect feedback along the way
  • Take leadership roles as part of an incident management team
  • Use systematic debugging to diagnose all issues within the scope of their domain 

What you need to succeed:

  • 5+ years of SRE experience 
  • 2+ years of experience mentoring and supporting team members 
  • Comfortable writing automation tooling in Golang
  • Experience using IaC tooling (Terraform or Kubernetes)
  • Experience running production workloads in a major cloud provider (AWS, GCP or Azure)
  • Familiarity in driving architectural discussions and initiatives across teams
  • Experience providing high-quality code reviews to peers and junior engineers, both on and off the team, for development efforts critical to the team
  • Strong time management skills
  • Written and spoken English communication skills

The Opportunity:

We are looking for support in improving our Composable Commerce APIs. Our engineers are part of vertical teams working closely with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers and Backend engineers. You will work within the respective domain and also contribute to the core of our product while engaging with our Open Source libraries where needed.

Your Mission:

  • Join our Distributed Systems team to work on some of our product’s core domains and infrastructure. You will be building and deploying backend services for Authentication/Authorization, Subscriptions and Extensions functionality. There is a lot of exciting work ahead of us, which is why we need your help.
  • Work collaboratively with a high degree of autonomy in a group of international peers on a rapidly growing product using cutting-edge technologies.
  • Work on a modern tech stack with technologies and tools such as Scala with Typelevel libraries, MongoDB, GraphQL, AWS, GCP and Azure.
  • Collaborate and align efforts with Product Managers and Backend engineers.
  • Make progress faster by incrementally introducing new features, deploying applications and services multiple times a day via technologies such as CircleCI, Kubernetes, Prometheus.
  • Experiment with new technologies and ideas during dedicated “Tech Time” as well as have a professional development budget at your disposal.

What you need to be successful:

  • Experience in building modern and scalable backend services on the JVM and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.
  • Familiarity with Scala or other JVM languages such as Kotlin, with an affinity for functional programming.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks.
  • Experience working with and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience extending HTTP services and APIs, including concepts for authentication and  service-to-service communication.
  • Experience in defining, working with, and optimizing CI pipelines, as well as deploying services with Kubernetes.

THE ROLE

Currently we are focused on providing equitable solutions to historically under-resourced communities of learners and teachers, and guided by our Engineering Principles. On the Product team, you might work on projects such as:

  • Integrating state of the art learning science into our product to enable learners and teachers to quickly identify and address learning gaps on the fly.
  • Partnering with public school districts with a high percentage of Free and Reduced Price Lunch students to build and scale our teacher and learner tools to millions of learners who otherwise would not have discovered us.
  • Building tools for teachers to use Khan Academy as a strategic supplement in their classrooms.

With the recent launch of Khanmigo and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a technology, this role will help harness the power of AI to deliver the product capabilities where applicable.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 10+ years experience building world-class product experiences for an interactive web-app. In particular, you have built and maintained scalable backend services, as well as complex, stateful frontend user interfaces.
  • Experience using Generative AI / LLMs to build products. Knowledge of common prompt engineering techniques, current state of generative models, and engineering techniques such as RAG.
  • Deep technical project management skills, as our Staff Software Engineers often lead projects, sometimes across multiple surface areas.
  • Experience building and maintaining complex software. You’ll join us in writing clean, maintainable software that solves hard problems. You’ll write testable, quality code. You’ll push the team and the mission forward with your contributions.
  • Strong communication, thoughtfulness, and desire to give and receive regular feedback

The target salary range for this position is $181,990 - $227,488 USD / $227,488 - $284,360 CAD. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data. Exceptional performers in this role who make an outsized contribution can make well in excess of this range.  Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete total rewards package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.

Required Skills: 

  • Minimum ten years of experience in information security. 
  • Public Cloud and cloud security fundamentals (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, cloud infrastructure security, container security) 
  • Experience working and integrating with security tool APIs for both GraphQL and REST 
  • System integration, automation, and cloud experience (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, etc.) 
  • Hands on with cloud security solutions (e.g., Wiz, Orca, Palo Alto Prisma) 
  • Scripting (Perl, Python, etc.), Java, .NET (C# and ASP,.Net) knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions, troubleshoot problems, and provide deep technical support for Stoplight customers across a wide array of topics.
  • Engage with customers and fellow Stoplight employees to solve critical, complex issues related to Stoplight products in a timely manner.
  • Deliver a great customer service experience with each customer interaction
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and maintaining Stoplight product documentation
  • Participate in a working hours on-call rotation for urgent customer issues
  • Serve as the voice of the customer within Stoplight

Requirements

  • Previous experience working directly with customers
  • Previous experience in Support, Systems Administration, Software Engineering, or other technical fields
  • Solid understanding of the modern web application stack. You are familiar with one or more of the following technologies: Typescript, React, GraphQL, REST, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes/Docker, nginx
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work and interact in a group or team
