About the team

Cloudflare is redefining the way network functions are deployed at scale. Magic WAN and Magic Transit put the connectivity, scale, and performance of Cloudflare’s global network in front of customers’ network infrastructure, providing a single pane of glass for deploying and managing network functions like Secure Web Gateway, Next Generation Firewall, IDS/IPS, WAN optimization, and more. Magic Platform team is responsible for a set of products, features, and technologies that comprise Magic Transit and Magic WAN, working alongside other engineering teams in this space to deliver a cohesive customer experience. We are a team of engineers and product managers who obsess over quickly building products that solve real customer problems using innovative technologies and techniques which leverage Cloudflare’s unique architecture and global network footprint.

About the role

As a software engineer on the Magic Platform team, you will be designing and developing distributed edge services and monitoring. You will proactively monitor production services, respond to customer escalations and incidents.

We primarily use Go for our control plane services on our distributed edge network. Our dataplane is built with Linux netfilter, network namespaces, and nftables. We operate our systems with the help of tools like SaltStack, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Compensation

Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. There are multiple levels open on the team, both mid & senior level.

Senior Level (4)

  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $196,000 - $240,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $187,000 - $229,000.
  • For Colorado-basedhires: Estimated annual salary of $168,000 - $206,000.

Mid Level (3)

  • For Bay Area-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $162,000 - $198,000
  • For New York City, Washington, and California (excluding Bay Area) based hires: Estimated annual salary of $154,000 - $188,000
  • For Colorado-based hires: Estimated annual salary of $137,000 - $167,000

  • Advanced understanding of sales and qualification methodologies such as Command of Message, MEDDPICC or similar, with demonstrated use and impact on application in day-to-day selling motions that have increased revenue growth and unstuck stalled deals. Fluent in guiding pricing strategies to support different types of sales cycles based on their motion - e.g,. value-based, RFP-based, evangelical or traditional sale - and buyer persona.
  • Strong consulting and account management skills that lead to trusted advisor status, both internally as well as to C-level decision-makers, founded in creating a deep knowledge base for yourself to draw from and apply day-to-day
  • Strong partnership approach, demonstrating deep engagement with your AEs and Sales Leadership - you will work side-by-side throughout all sales stages

Overview:

Cloudflare provides consultative and hands-on-keyboard implementation and migration services for enterprise customers. Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver timely and organized services for customers, ensure customers see the full value in Cloudflare’s products and advice on product best practices.
  • Gather business and technical requirements, use cases and any other information required to build, migrate and deliver a solution on behalf of the customer and transition the Cloudflare working environment to the customer. Produce a Solution Design, HLD, LLD, databuilds, procedures, scripts, test plans, drawings, deployment plan, migration plan, as-builts, and any other artifacts necessary to deliver the solution and transition smoothly into the customer’s technical teams.
  • Implement changes on behalf of the customer in the Cloudflare environment following the customer’s change management process. Provide guidance to the customer to configure their CPEs and integration points.

Who you'll be be joining

Our Embedded Chapter is made up of 20+ Embedded Developers with a wide variety of specialties, skill sets, backgrounds, and experiences. They aim to bring their Embedded experience to the cross-functional squads that they are a part of, with a focus on collaboration, learning, development. This role could be remote or hybrid!

How you'll make an impact 

As an Intermediate Embedded Engineer, you will be responsible for helping develop the software that powers our hardware products. These devices run on a multitude of platforms from small, battery operated microcontrollers to full-blown multicore embedded Linux systems. 

The embedded team is in a unique position as we own a wide breadth of the technologies that get built into our devices making each day a unique challenge. You may be working on portions of the low-level software/hardware interactions, but equally important is the development of the user applications that run on device.  Everything from network protocols, to control algorithms to building enticing graphic UI’s. 

The embedded team is also responsible for developing the test fixtures used to validate the functionality of each device manufactured. These devices are truly products on their own and no less complex considering the hardware and software systems they must interface with.

Aside from the in-house technologies, the embedded team is often also responsible for integrating third-party services. For example, we developed the device software stack that allowed us to become one of the first Apple HomeKit accessories on the market as well as more recently one of the first third parties to integrate Amazon Voice Services for Alexa functionality built right into a thermostat.  

To accomplish all of this, at any given time you may be working closely with developers from other teams as well as our QA, Product Management, Manufacturing, Hardware teams and third-party tech companies on integrations.

    • have 8+ years in IT infrastructure management, with 5+ years in leadership roles have several years of experience in building and managing software teams
    • have a successful track record leading an IT infrastructure & operations team through growth and change
    • have strong knowledge of web applications, as well as developer tools know about maintaining and scaling high availability web applications (SaaS products), built on the Linux environment
    • have knowledge of infrastructure and modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP)
    • are familiar with Big Data solutions
    • have knowledge of virtualization, Docker and Kubernetes
    • know about the IT security aspects of infrastructure, network and applications
    • have effective project management skills, with experience in planning and executing IT projects
    • are experienced in dealing with vendors and 3rd parties
    • have excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail and a proactive approach to issue resolution
    • are able to think strategically and execute tactically
    • have very good communication and cooperation skills, as well as an empathic personality – a desire to help other people grow, and have experience in mentoring and coaching them
    • do what is needed to Get Things Done
    • have English fluency (at least B2 level)

    Nice-to-have experience:

    • work experience as a DevOps or System Administrator (Linux systems)
    • knowledge of Business Continuity Planning
    • familiarity with Agile Manifesto
    • relevant certifications (ITIL, PMP, Cisco, AWS/Azure)

    Salary range:  

    • Contract of employment: 20,000 - 30,000 PLN gross/month  
    • B2B contract: 1100 - 1600 PLN MD/net
