About the Role

Compensation and Benefits

Our anticipated compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets, and the range below indicates the low end of the lowest-compensated market to the high end of the highest-compensated market. This position is eligible for new hire and ongoing grants of restricted stock units depending on employee and company performance. The Role: Senior Software Engineer

About the Job 

Your responsibilities will include one or more of the following:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing large volumes of structured and unstructured data, specifically image and video streams and relevant metadata.
  • Develop and integrate tools for data labeling and annotation, ensuring high-quality training datasets for deep learning and computer vision models.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to build and optimize the infrastructure required for training and evaluating deep learning models at scale.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to seamlessly deploy machine learning models into production environments.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

What you will do:

  • Strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods, utilizing a variety of analytic tools, building and implementing models, creating algorithms and running simulations 
  • Experience with programming languages (Python, R, PySpark, Scala and/or Spark SQL) 
  • Strong interest and understanding of EMR data, Claims and SDOH data 
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Kibana, preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM, public health, biostatistics, economics, or other related field

Meet the team:
The Middleware team creates a powerful framework which allows to move the virtual driver data across multiple ECUs. Therefore, they act as the glue between the vehicle hardware and the autonomous driver software. This covers Ethernet based low bandwidth applications as well as PCIe based high bandwidth applications.
 
What you’ll do:
Responsible for software development, including but not limited to, software design, algorithm development, implementation, unit testing, vehicle testing and deployed software maintenance while following quality, build, deploy and test processes, safety and process requirements and guidelines. Includes both Autonomous and Perception Engineers.
  • Responsible for executing full software development lifecycle activities using primarily C++ skills in Linux development environment using Lean-Agile methodologies.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of issues found in testing and process automation steps.
  • Support team in identifying daily assignments and reporting progress at daily stand ups.
  • Support software and system level test plans and verification strategies to support ongoing feature development and bug fixes.
  • Designing and implementing systems responsible for data acquisition and analysis from remote vehicles in the field.
  • Responsible for ensuring software updates do not regress the software performance by utilizing simulation software and scenarios.
  • Communicate well in a team environment being able to clearly articulate progress, design expectations and support needed to help the team accomplish goals.
What you’ll need to succeed:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or engineering equivalent & 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of practical experience in developing software heavy products in a team of more than 3 persons.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ .
  • Strong skills in networking and linux operating systems
  • Experience in working with ROS2 and underlying DDS implementations.
  • Experience in working with modern software development tools like GIT, Jenkins, JIRA
  • Experience working in a start-up like environment with high uncertainty and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 2-4 weeks a year if there is the need to work on the target hardware platform onsite.

What you’ll do: 

TORC is looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to develop and drive the technical solution for the compute platform, sensors and actuators of the autonomous solution for their vehicle platforms. This is a great opportunity that will play a pivotal role in the success of the organization, and comes with high visibility, responsibility and technical impact. This person should be a self-starter, who is curious, creative, and solution oriented. A strong technical foundation in integrating software with hardware is essential. This individual will need to collaborate with individual contributors and teams of various backgrounds, across all levels of the organization to solve problems in the software integration department and the overall technical product.

  • Work collaboratively in Torc’s Principal Community and engineering leaders to mature a technical vision across the engineering division and drive technical direction into engineering departments
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and design scalable and maintainable software solutions for the Software Integration department and the broader engineering division
  • Set the technical direction and architectural guardrails for the division
  • Set the standards of technical excellence and rigor within the Compute Foundation department, in alignment with the engineering division.
  • Work with engineering leaders to drive standards of excellence into meaningful processes and practices of engineering
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams in the department promoting best practices, and ensuring adherence to coding standards and architectural principles
  • Participate in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure high-quality solutions that adhere to established standards and practices
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to next-level engineers, and below, assisting in their technical growth and fostering a culture and learning and development within the department
  • Troubleshoot and debug the most critical issues related to software integration, determining the root causes, implementing appropriate solutions, and setting up safeguards against reoccurrences
  • Be able to analyze, and mentor others to analyze, software performance to implement necessary optimizations to enhance speed, efficiency, and scalability
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies and best practices for potential integration with existing solutions
  • Participate in project planning and collaborate with technical product managers on the priorities and customer expectations of the proposed software solutions 

What you’ll need to succeed: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Software or Robotics Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in engineering or related field with preference for robotic or software/hardware integration projects.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages, C++ preferred.
  • Strong experience with Real-time Systems, Linux, Networking and Virtualization.
  • Working knowledge with software Verification & Validation.
  • Strong technical communication skills, written and verbal, that scale to a diverse workforce
  • Strong ability to align technical objectives to business values and articulate the associated business value of technical work.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams both in person and virtually.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving software/hardware infrastructure.

The Technical Program Management team is an integral part of the Instacart Engineering organization. We bring teams together to tackle big problems and lead Instacart’s products, platform, and operational excellence forward. ABOUT THE JOB

  • Lead the planning and high quality technical execution of large sized engineering programs with high degree of ambiguity, complexity, and visibility demonstrating a strong sense of urgency, efficiency, and ownership.
  • Work closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Product Designers, Data Scientists and other cross-functional partners  to set project objectives and metric-based success criteria. Drive definition of project requirements and execution plans, and manage an overall program's progress and outcome.
  • Own clear and effective communication with stakeholders, ensuring alignment on and awareness of priorities, risks, and changes. 
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and shared goals, creating a collaborative team environment and driving the right level of process to ensure efficiency and high quality delivery within the program team.
  • Contribute broadly to Instacart’s success by suggesting and driving organization-wide initiatives.

 

ABOUT YOU

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of work experience post-graduation in a technology field, preferably as a technical program or project manager, product manager, software engineer (technical domain), or related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to create functional specs, set program structure and influence program strategy. Previous experience in managing complex multi-org programs end-to-end, from definition to launch, throughout a software development lifecycle.
  • A strong communicator with the ability to distill multiple streams of information, convey priorities and risks, and build a narrative for stakeholders.
  • A strong sense of ownership and intellectual curiosity to understand executional and technical problems in depth, identify potential issues and offer actions to prevent them.
  • Excellent collaborator and motivator, able to bring a team together to align and deliver on a common goal. Can build trust and partnerships with senior Engineering and Product leaders.
  • Growth mindset - seeks and is receptive to actionable feedback and growth opportunities.

  • Master’s degree in a technology/engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to showcase deep technical domain knowledge on the programs that you take on, enabling you to be seen as a strong technical voice in the program and adding significant value towards architecting a program. 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive architectural and strategic decisions at the org leadership level.
  • Extensive previous experience around creating innovative program management processes/tools/approaches to deliver company outcomes reliably and efficiently.
