  • 3-5 years of experience managing and mentoring teams, with a proven ability to lead and develop individual contributors.
  • Proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience in querying databases like Redshift, Snowflake, or similar platforms.

This role is ideal for a highly strategic, technically adept leader who can navigate the intersection of data, product, and business needs to drive organizational success.

You are willing and able to help your teammates grow by providing (and receiving) respectful and constructive feedback, and disclosing your unique insights with everyone.
  • You enjoy working in a fluid environment, defined by priorities that adapt to our larger goals. You can bring clarity to ambiguity on projects while remaining open-minded to new information that might change your mind.
  • You are not hesitant to jump in to help fix things that are broken and you are encouraged to make sustainable systems. You are happy to fill in the gaps to reach a goal where necessary, even if it does not always fit your job description.
  • You have a genuine interest in what good technology can do to help people and have a positive attitude about tackling hard problems in an important industry.

You should get in touch if:

  • You have 3+ years of experience in Machine Learning Engineering or related roles in technology enabled companies, healthcare experience preferred but not required.

Sezzle is hiring a Remote VP of Engineering - Infrastructure and Security (Remote, U.S.)

VP of Engineering - Infrastructure and Security

This is a remote role for candidates based in the U.S.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to manage multiple teams across several disciplines: our hosting platform, security, authentication, middleware, and various other internal services. You will be responsible for the growth and scaling of both the tech and the people in your organization, which includes a mix of Software, Site Reliability, DevOps, and Data Engineers.

As our business grows, scaling our infrastructure safely and in a cost-effective manner will be your core challenge. You will be starting with an already-strong team of individual contributors and managers, and will have the full support of leadership, the business, and the other development teams to accomplish this.

This is a role that is still highly technical. You will be expected to dig into technical work with the team, and provide a deep well of experience running and scaling infrastructure.

At a minimum, you should have production experience with the following technologies:

  • Kubernetes
  • AWS - particularly EC2, Aurora/RDS, Redshift
  • Relational Databases

The higher-level challenges you’ll face include:

  • Keep Sezzle secure, and build/maintain cutting edge tooling for detecting and remediating vulnerabilities or other security issues.
  • Step into a people leadership role with multiple teams of engineers, each led by an exceptional Engineering Manager. Grow the careers of your folks as the company expands, keep them happy and engaged.
  • Continue expanding the teams with new hires, supporting and growing them into exceptional engineers, and coaching those that struggle.
  • Scale up our data infrastructure, warehousing, and analytics tooling that’s used heavily by every unit of the business.
  • Scale up our ML training and deployments, with a shift towards architecture that supports continuous training.
  • Partner with the data and development teams to keep best practices in mind for building on the infrastructure you support.
  • Work with other leaders to keep us compliant with SOC2, PCI, SOX, and similar audits for the fintech industry.

The full tech stack you’ll deal with includes:

  • AWS, particularly RDS/Aurora with MySQL, Networking, and EC2. ML products are a bonus.
  • Kubernetes, both self-managed (KOPS) and managed (AWS EKS)
  • Prometheus (with Thanos), Loki, Grafana, Alertmanager.
  • Golang, with our stack including Gin, Gorm, MySQL.
  • Python and SQL for the data science and data engineering aspects.
  • Async tools like Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ, or design patterns that solve the same problem.

You’ll also be expected to bring a strong set of fundamentals that includes software development principles, work estimation and breakdown experience, and a strong background in web development in general - including HTTP/TCP networking, and both synchronous and asynchronous architectures.

Our Company:

Sezzle is a cutting-edge fintech company whose mission is to financially empower young consumers. Only one in three millennials own a credit card, and the vast majority of millennials possess a subprime credit score or no score at all. About You:

  • A hard-working mentality. It’s early and there is still a lot to build.
  • An excellent communicator.
