As a Senior Lead ML Scientist, you’ll be on of the most senior Individual Contributors (IC) in the organisation, giving you a real opportunity to lead us into an exciting new phase of optimising Customer Operations, enabling us to craft a world-class support experience for over 9 million customers across the UK, and beyond as we continue to grow. 

You’ll provide key technical leadership and ship highly impactful ML-based solutions. You’ll be empowered to work across the collective identifying the most impactful areas and pushing solution development forward while mentoring and levelling up less experienced ML practitioners. You’ll also impact how people across Monzo use ML tools to improve customer outcomes, including LLMs, which have their heaviest use within the Operations team.

  • You have a multiple year track record of excellence leading the technical work of a team in the development and deployment of advanced Machine Learning models tackling real business problems, preferably in a fast moving tech company

  • You have a self-starter mindset; you proactively identify issues and opportunities and tackle them without being told to do so
  • You have a solid grounding in SQL and Python, are comfortable using them every day, and keen to learn Go lang which is used in many of our microservices

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineerto join our Search Intelligence team, who will play a crucial role in advancing our search and personalization capabilities. Meet the team:  

As part of an organization at the forefront of autonomous driving, we develop trajectory prediction & planning networks that enable the truck to make data-driven decisions to the scene around it. The Learned Vehicle Intent team works in partnership with Perception and Control teams to plan out the safest possible trajectory given the traffic, weather and environment around the truck. 

What you’ll do:     

Design, develop, optimize and deploy machine learning models for trajectory planning in our autonomous trucks. The Senior ML Engineer will work closely with the rest of the machine Learning teams and the Vehicle Intent Department to advance our capabilities in time-series forecasting for autonomous driving. The candidate will participate in all aspects of the software lifecycle, from defining the requirements, planning and designing the model, to implementing and testing, and finally, deployment and maintenance. 

  • Produce production deployed models and software 
  • Contribute to the research, development, and improvement of machine learning models for end-to-end prediction, and planning 
  • Collaborate with data scientists and other engineers to evaluate and improve the efficacy of these models 
  • Develop software that is robust, efficient, and maintainable, always ensuring software quality 
  • Participate in team meetings to share progress, collaborate on new ideas, and address any challenges 
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in machine learning and autonomous driving. Evaluate how these can be utilized in our system 
  • Work closely with the Vehicle Intent, Sensing and Understanding, and other autonomy teams to align on objectives and deliverables 
  • Participate in technical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and other team meetings 
  • Develop and maintain thorough documentation for all developed models and associated code 
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members 

 

What you’ll need to succeed:     

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or engineering equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience    
  • Deep understanding of machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch 
  • Experience involving machine learning or related fields in a production environment 
  • Hands-on experience with learning-based prediction, planning and control 
  • Experience in autonomous driving systems, sensor fusion, and perception is a plus 
  • Adept communication skills, able to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 
  • Advanced knowledge contributing to engineering and process creation and maintenance 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to plan, develop, and prioritize effectively 
  • May require occasional travel to other sites  
  • Continuous technical education and training is required to stay updated in the field of machine learning and autonomous driving. 
  • Ability to be flexible and may work extended hours/weekends/evenings when project demands 
  • Ability to work and collaborate across locations over different time zones

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure Grammarly website visitors appreciate the breadth and depth of Grammarly’s writing assistance through our web tools (Grammar Checker, AI Writing Tools, Grammarly Editor, etc.), product demos, and other interactivity. Develop a vision for how these website features will change over the next 1-3 years as Grammarly’s core product evolves.
  • Go deep into the technologies that power organic marketing (SEO, CMS, self-serve experimentation platform, personalization tools, etc.), identifying best-in-class examples and new industry trends to inspire the team. Prioritize and execute technical improvements as needed.
  • Employ user testing, quantitative analysis, and experimentation to inform decisions, test hypotheses, and measure the impact of projects. Influence the roadmap of our Data & Analytics teams, ensuring we have the necessary information for product decisions readily available.
  • Partner with engineers, product designers, content designers, data scientists, marketers, and user researchers to develop comprehensive user acquisition strategies, optimizing existing channels and identifying new ones.
  • Own a significant portion of Grammarly’s growth goals in 2024/2025—present progress, insights, and recommendations for these goals to senior leadership regularly.

Qualifications

  • Has experience with one or more of the following - Growth product management, SEO, or landing page optimization.
