Job Description

The Tech Lead - Payments role is the architect and lead developer for our Point of Sale payments integrations into gateways and payment providers such as Stripe, Global Payments, and other payment processors that MyTime integrates into.  This role is also responsible for integrations into hardware such as credit card terminals and other complex point of sale hardware systems.  The MyTime application is used by millions of consumers and tens of thousands of employees each month to interact and transact with one another in the modern era. Engineers at MyTime are responsible not just for writing code, but ensuring that it gets deployed and works properly in production.

We have created a cohesive, collaborative team environment that works hard to deliver on our innovation roadmap and meet pressing customer commitments.  We are looking for individuals who want to both learn and mentor others. While we work independently, we support each other through frequent code and design reviews, daily stand-ups, and pair programming which facilitates learning and reducing friction in our nightly release schedule.

You should have prior experience developing high quality software and be excited about doing it at a fast growing company. You should also know how to have productive technical discussions and be ready to continuously iterate on features based on feedback from our analytics as well as user feedback.

You will not only craft high quality software, but also help in other aspects of building a new company: Designing features, making good product decisions, and building a culture of excellence. We’re seeking engineers who are ready to attack deep technical challenges as well as have an impactful role in product and company development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, debug and document new and existing components to ensure that software meets business, quality and operational needs.

  • Lead technical development with a team of talented backend developers who work on our Point of Sale and Payments team

  • Drive and participate in code and document reviews, mentoring team in best practices.

  • Collaborate with peer organizations, devops, support organizations on technical issues and provide guidance.

  • Interpret and translate business needs to technical requirements and make accurate estimates.

  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure the highest quality and performance is achieved.

  • Work with team to troubleshoot code level problems quickly and efficiently.

  • Focus on scalability, security, and availability of all applications and processes.

  • Manage technical roadmap and technical debt elimination, balancing time, resource, and quality constraints to achieve business and strategic goals and requirements.

  • Motivate and educate team members on coding standards and best practices. both within the team and as part of the architecture group.

Qualifications

 

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years building Single Page Applications; Ruby on Rails is required and knowledge of Angular is a plus
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL

  • Some experience with Memcache and ElasticSearch is preferred

  • Some experience with AWS products (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, ELB) is preferred

  • Comfortable writing test suites and specs in our test-driven environment

  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization across the stack

  • Self motivator with strong communication skills

  • Degree in computer science or a related field is preferred, but not required

About the role

What you'll do

This will span the range of Cloudflare products from Magic Transit Infrastructure Protection, Argo Smart Routing, DDoS mitigation and Network Firewall, to using the Web Application firewall (WAF), Spectrum and Rate Limiting to help customers.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Fluent English speaker is a requirement
  • Minimum 3 years working within a Technical Support team solving various technical issues 
  • Self-driven and capable of learning new technologies / systems / features with little guidance
  • Fundamental understanding how the Internet works (OSI Model)
  • Advanced understanding of internet protocols like TCP and UDP
  • Computer Networking fundamentals, experience with iptables and looking glass

  • DDoS mitigation for OSI layers 3,4, & 7: advise customers on how to filter malicious traffic using Cloudflare tools like Magic Transit, Network Firewall, WAF, IP reputation lists, packet inspection, blocklisting, allowlisting, and rate limiting
  • Work with Engineering and Operations teams to mitigate attacks, suggest steps to mitigate, and apply the appropriate mitigation when applicable
  • Work with Engineering and Product teams to improve products and tools

Availability and Schedule Requirements

  • Flexibility to work varying work schedules including; Tuesday through Saturday, Sunday through Thursday, holidays, weekends, more than 5 days in a row, or additional hours on occasion.

About the department

Cloudflare’s Billing Engineering team builds and maintains all the internal/external billing services related to customer onboarding, subscription management, payments, provisioning, usage processing/analytics and back office integrations with financial systems. This is a vital team central to every product launch, campaign or initiative Cloudflare undertakes. What you'll do

We are looking for an engineer to join our Billing Team; an energetic team focused engineer who is growth mindset oriented, able to drive their work from inception, requirements definition, technical specification phase, development, testing and go live.

You will work on a range of transactional microservices written in Go. You will be involved in helping to maintain our operational excellence by triaging, solving various inbound tickets related to issues across services billing maintains.     Position Overview

    Our customers are at the forefront of some of the most interesting data in the world, using SingleStore to push the boundaries every day. To do this well, they leverage the expertise of our Support Engineering Team, composed of technical subject matter experts on the frontlines of critical customer issues. 

    This Support Engineering role skews far more towards engineering than typical technical support as you will need to delve into database internals and memory allocators, investigate Linux and host-related configurations, and diagnose SQL query behavior, all in the name of resolving complex database issues. Our Support Engineers are constantly learning a wide range of customer systems and technical concepts and are thrilled by the new and exciting challenges that they encounter on a regular basis. 

    To accurately identify the source and solution of an issue, this team will take the time to learn about the customer’s business and systems while helping to improve their fundamental SingleStore and database operational knowledge. This often requires additional research and time spent on learning new technologies and tools outside of SingleStore while also being deeply engaged with multiple departments including development teams, query performance engineering, product management, infrastructure SREs, etc.

    Required Hours

    • The hours required are from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM PST
    • Participate in our on-call rotation that may include weekends and holidays.

    Role and Responsibilities

    • Provide email and live technical support to our enterprise customers, acting as the first line of defense for complex technical issues, bug diagnosis, or resolving critical outages.
    • Identify and reproduce product issues, perform QA, and submit formal bug reports or feature requests to the appropriate Engineering team.
    • Collaborate closely with software developers, sales engineers, and technical account managers to keep all teams up to date with current issues a customer may be facing.
    • Work to streamline and improve various Support and Engineering processes and tools, author new internal run-books or public documentation, and help the team continually improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Ensure customers have a positive support experience during every interaction.

    Required Skills and Experience

    • 3+ years of advanced customer-facing technical support experience.
    • Experience with MySQL or MySQL-like (MariaDB, Aurora, etc) database and SQL Query Optimization. 
    • A solid sysadmin/QA/Testing skill set. That means you are comfortable testing software and finding its limits, hands-on with Linux, checking utilization of system I/O, measuring network throughput, and are comfortable navigating large log files. Bonus points for familiarity with Kubernetes and past Testing/QA experience.
    • Experience with a scripting or coding language. Whether it’s Python, Bash, or Go, you should have a go-to solution for quick and dirty problem-solving and be able to navigate through our code base.
    • Familiarity with distributed systems and AWS/GCP. You understand how organizations deploy and maintain distributed applications and services across multiple machines Bonus points for knowing how to analyze them for performance bottlenecks and remove single points of failure.
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Have the ability to explain technical concepts to a wide range of end-users.

    Cloudflare's Network Engineering Team builds and runs the infrastructure that runs our software. The Engineering Team is split into two groups: one handles product development and the other handles operations.
