About This Role
The Senior Manager, Payroll is responsible for payroll delivery in the North American region.  This individual will provide direction, ensure payroll activities are performed timely and accurately, drive issue resolution and provide regular communication to stakeholders at all levels.   This role will support team members in performing their daily duties, manage performance, coach and develop team members. The Senior Manager, Payroll will drive process standardization, documentation, improvement and compliance.  This role reports into the Head of People Services.

What You'll Do
•    Ensure payroll activities are performed timely and accurately for the assigned region; manage workload and assign backups, oversee seamless payroll execution, manage KPIs, drive issue resolution and manage escalations. 
•    Ensure all transactions are processed in compliance with internal policies and procedures as well as government agency regulations, taxes are paid, and applicable documents filed in a timely manner.
•    Partner with Finance & HR affiliate leads, GBS leadership and peers; maintain regular dialogue with partners to discuss ongoing team activities, issues, opportunities and performance. Manage payroll vendor relationships to drive best-in-class payroll and time-tracking process execution.
•    Own processes for the North American region; ensure process standardization, process documentation and drive meaningful process improvement. Partner with HR and IT to ensure system readiness and optimization. Act as Project Manager for selected projects within the assigned region.
•    Provide support to team members; build trust and act as first point of contact for HR related matters, manage performance, coach team members and ensure development activities are performed regularly, motivate team members, develop cross team collaboration, monitor employees' wellbeing.
 

Qualifications

Who You Are
You are customer service-oriented payroll professional experienced in overseeing multi-state payroll operations. You are knowledgeable in payroll and time & attendance technologies. You thrive in team leadership and excel in motivating and developing team members.  You have a continuous improvement mind-set, excel in problem solving and building relationships.

•    HR/payroll/finance professional with 7-10 years of experience in an operational role; CPP is a plus.
•    Minimum 3 years of people leadership experience is required.
•    Knowledge of payroll and time & attendance technologies and vendors.
•    Experienced with analysis of payroll data to identify areas of improvement, cost drivers, and impacts of Total Rewards programs and policies.
•    Proven track record in the management of complex global environments and experience in delivering a continuous improvement agenda.
•    Experience with managing teams and interacting with executives.
•    Experienced in managing the performance of payroll vendors.
•    Strong leadership and communication skills.
•    Highly detail-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

What you’ll do

  • Oversee the payroll processing for multi-state domestic and international exempt and nonexempt employees, including bi-weekly payroll, and monthly or ad-hoc employee equity settlements
  • Review month-end journal entries and reconciliations for payroll related accounts and participate in our month end close process
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining payroll tax compliance
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, including SOX

The base salary range may be subject to change.

  • [15%] Implement a prompt and efficient US payroll cycle process, including but not limited to base pay, variable pay, commissions, equity transactions, payroll taxes, 401k, statutory and supplemental benefits, etc. for both the US, and any off-cycle payroll runs.

Purpose of the role
 
To supplement our payroll function during a particularly busy time due to year-end activities and high numbers of new hires as we add a sales force and other new hires.
 
Position Responsibilities
  • Oversee all payroll procedures, including preparing and distributing employee payments, calculating taxes
  • Oversee the semi-monthly payroll process
  • Oversee new hires/terminations are processed timely and accurately
  • Manage payroll system and become proficient with Paylocity
  • Lead/assist with projects as needed
  • Manage and maintaining state and local tax information in payroll system
  • Reconcile Quarterly tax filings: Ensure all exception and errors on quarter reports are cleared for Quarter balancing report, Wage detail total, Employee Quarter error, W-2, annual balancing
  • Oversee governmental reporting obligations
  • Oversee monthly accounting reconciliations and ensure GL is accurate and delivered timely.
  • Oversee accurate, timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations in compliance with multi-state regulations
  • Manage processing and review of YTD information, W-2 forms, W-2c’s and amended tax returns
  • Supervise payroll team, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff and providing performance evaluations
  • Serve as a backup the Associate Director, Comp & Payroll
Position Requirements
  • Minimum of ten years of payroll experience, including at least two years of in-house payroll and tax processing experience in a payroll department with HR to PR system integrations
  • Certified Payroll Professional Designation preferred; basic payroll class completion (local APA chapter) a plus
  • Payroll.Org member a plus
  • Knowledge of federal and state payroll and tax requirements and regulations. Multistate experience is required
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and make timely decisions
  • Must have problem solving skills and ability to organize time effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft-based applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills required.

Location

The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $109,989-$134,431. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.

What you'll do:

We're looking for a Payroll & Benefits Manager to join our growing People team. As a Payroll & Benefits Manager, you will collaborate with our entire People team to ensure that all aspects of human resources align with and contribute to our organizational and business goals.

What impact you'll have:The Payroll & Benefits Manager will oversee the management and administration of company payroll and benefits including processing payroll, auditing, benefits administration, reporting, legal and tax compliance, and training. The Manager will be the administrator of the company’s systems of record.

Payroll

  • Administers bi-weekly payrolls for exempt and non-exempt employees. This includes time entry review and manager follow-up. Responsible for auditing payroll and benefits entries to ensure accuracy.
  • Works closely with the People Team to ensure the needs of the internal customers are met and embraces an inclusive philosophy across all areas of operation.
  • Leads payroll reporting responsibilities, including W-2 and 1095-C filing, ACA Compliance, affirmative-action, EEO-1, annual 5500 filing, and compensation plan administration.
  • Responsible for the integrity of the data housed in the Paylocity platform and the ongoing functionality of our source of record HRIS.
  • Responsible for setting up an necessary integration with provider partners and maintaining the integrity of existing EDI feeds.
  • Trains employees and managers in the use of Paylocity self-service features.
  • Collaborates with Accounting to provide payroll reports and ad hoc reporting as needed.
  • Maintains employee new hire set-up and termination processing, including final pay.
  • Approves monthly insurance bills, manual payroll checks, ACH, vendor reconciliations, and various other payroll processes to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Serves as project lead for key projects in Payroll/HCM and trains, documents, and implements key initiatives.

Benefits

  • Leads 401K administration and audit. Completes audit action items and corrections in compliance with all regulations.

Responsible for the integrity of the data housed in Employee Navigator and the ongoing functionality of our source of record for employee benefits enrollment. 

  • Audits benefits entries in payroll to ensure accuracy.
  • Works consistently with the broker to ensure optimal employee experience with company-sponsored benefits.
  • In coordination with the CHRO, the Manager reviews benefit offerings, market trends, employee feedback, and provider rate quotes to make recommendations to the executive team.

People Team Administration

  • Completes administrative and operational requirements related to recordkeeping, reporting and documentation, including employee personnel files in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Works with the People team to document/track all types of leaves of absence.
  • Maintains knowledge of payroll/benefit legal changes and practices and communicates them to employees and managers as needed on an ongoing basis.
  • Provides courteous and prompt resolution of employee inquiries (wage requests, employment verifications, password resets, unemployment, and benefits inquiries).
  • Provides assistance with employee activities, new hire orientation, employee engagement, payroll, and benefits.
  • Completes other tasks & duties as assigned based on business needs.

What you'll bring:

  • Experience managing the payroll function for a multi-state company, including experience with federal, state, and local tax accounts. 
  • Experience working as a collaborative member of the People Team.
  • Experience in supporting teams within a technology company (experience in the healthcare industry is a plus).
