  • Communicate and translate vision/strategy to the team executing on functional and business goals for the team  
  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Engineers and Data Scientists to deliver high quality SaaS products  
  • Responsible for the delivery of superb products and systems; making certain excellent code is shipped, strive for engineering excellence and supported by teams that are building, testing and deploying leading edge solutions  
  • Drive the full software development life-cycle, set strategy and allocate appropriate resources to maximize ROI  
  • Prioritize workload, shift attention when priorities change and advocate when workload should not change   

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in computer science or any related field
  • 4+ years of combined experience in software engineering leadership; managing, architecting and deploying SaaS applications in a cloud-based infrastructure  
  • 4+ years of experience utilizing agile development and scrum methodologies  
  • Scrum Master a plus (NOT required)  
  • 1-3 years of experience building consumer web and mobile software solutions  
  • 2-4 years of people management with demonstrated experience in building and motivating large teams  
  • An understanding of security issues facing SaaS platforms and effective mitigation  
  • Solid technical background with experience in building next generation architectures and solutions  
  • Strong organizational planning and development, business judgment, influential skills and technical leadership  
  • Ability to take part in code reviews, drive architecture, engage in design discussions and final solution selection  
  • Strong record in building high performing organizations through people development and empowered teams  
  • Experience with SaaS technologies and a track record of delivering high quality products  
  • Excel at leading, managing, and building high functioning teams; and leading front-line technical contributors  
  • Ability to foster alignment of values, missions, and operational best practices

Engineering Manager in Growth at Monzo:

You’ll be the Engineering Manager in two cross-functional teams that are tasked with driving new user acquisition. Your remit will be across a broad domain ranging from in-app product improvements, to improving our public facing website, and partnering with marketers. You’ll also lead the team that built the Year in Monzo experience and is working on Shared Tabs improvements.

If you’re the kind of Engineering Manager who is passionate about having top line company level impact, then this is the role for you. You’ll need to be comfortable working with a range of disciplines to ensure that your teams are aligned to delivering on initiatives that balance meeting real user needs with helping to move the needle on user growth and engagement. It’s helpful if you have prior growth experience, but not essential as we’ve got a team of people experienced in growth you can learn from, but it’s important to hold a data and hypothesis driven mindset.

Is this role right for you?

While this is not a role which requires hands-on-coding, we are looking for an experienced manager who has a strong technical and delivery background and has worked as a software engineer in previous roles.

We recognise that Engineering Managers lead in different ways, we’re looking for someone who: 

  • Delivery and Execution: Enjoys taking accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with the Technical Lead and Product Manager.
  • Engineering and Operational Excellence: Actively fosters a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams. You’re accountable for the technical outcomes your teams deliver alongside individual engineer performance and growth, so holding a high bar (and clearly articulating your expectations) is key.
  • People Leadership: Is able to lead a group of around ~10 engineers and support, coach and develop them through their career with regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
  • Technical Influence: Partners with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Builds strong stakeholder relationships with other teams, and creates a focus space for engineers to do their best work.
  • Organisational Wide Impact: Collaborates with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards.

  • If you have experience working in growth, customer acquisition or experimentation led environments.

The interview process:

Our interview process involves three main stages

  1. Recruiter Call (30 mins) You'll meet our Engineering Leadership Recruiter to discuss your experience and learn more about Monzo. They'll be your partner and guide throughout the interview process.

  2. Initial Call (1 hour) You'll meet with one of our Senior Engineering Managers or Engineering Directors. They'll ask you about your previous experience, in particular people leadership, product delivery and technical leadership. They’ll ask example based questions (‘Tell me about a time when…’)

  3. Loop Stage (3 hours 30 mins) The Loop stage consists of 3 x 60 min interviews that take place over 1-2 days (depending on your availability) and one 30 minute reverse interview (more details below).

- Team and Org Management (1 hour)
An example based interview with 1-2 of our engineering leaders. They’re interested to hear examples from your previous experience on the teams you’ve led, how you’ve shaped and partnered with product, and the impact you had.

- System Design (1 hour)
You'll partner with a Staff or Principal Engineer on a technical whiteboarding exercise.

- Behavioural (1 hour)
Similar to Team and Org Management, this is an example based interview with 1-2 Engineering Leaders. This interview focuses on your people leadership style and core behaviours as an Engineering Manager.

As the Manager of the Data Engineering team, you will co-own the company-wide data lake and set the vision for data schemas, analytical tooling, and pipelines. Our cutting-edge data lake is the central hub for all data producers and consumers, and your impact will span all of Grammarly.

Data engineers make disparate data centrally available to Grammarly’s team members while ensuring query efficiency and efficacy. Your team will support all of Grammarly’s functions to help us successfully operate three lines of business: individual consumers, enterprise, and Grammarly’’s developer platform. In this role, you will:

  • Working knowledge of front-end technologies such as Angular, NgRx, React, CSS3, HTML and Node
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Exposure to caching patterns and technologies is a plus(Redis, Couchbase, etc.)
  • Exposure to Document Databases is preferred
  • Experience with TDD and familiarity with Unit testing frameworks is preferred

The base salary hiring range for this position is $108,900 to $189,700. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

Engineering Manager in Platform at Monzo

Our mission in Platform is to create engineering effectiveness. Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for our product engineers to focus on our customers - running experiments, shipping fast, and iterating quickly. As we scale, the pace we can do those things should only get faster.

One of the many things that makes being an engineer great at Monzo is our investment in engineering tooling. We provide simple abstractions on top of our platform so our engineers can focus on solving problems for our customers. We’re the teams that enable our engineers to ship to production over 100 times a day

You’ll need to be an Engineering Manager who’s passionate about engaging directly with your customers. Your customers are Monzo engineers, and as such, you’ll need to be comfortable putting your Product hat on and deeply understanding their needs. You’ll influence and drive our engineering experience roadmap, ensuring we’re working on the most impactful projects to help all of our engineers move even faster than they can today. This area will be yours to grow, partnering with other Engineering Managers and engineers across our Platform and Product teams to help shape our future.

While this is not a role which requires hands-on-coding, we are looking for an experienced manager who has a strong technical and delivery background and has worked as a software engineer in previous roles.

We recognise that Engineering Managers lead in different ways, we’re looking for someone who: 

  • Delivery and Execution: Enjoys taking accountability for delivery across your squad(s), collaborating with the Technical Lead and Product Manager.
  • Engineering and Operational Excellence: Actively fosters a high bar for engineering excellence within your teams. You’re accountable for the technical outcomes your teams deliver alongside individual engineer performance and growth, so holding a high bar (and clearly articulating your expectations) is key.
  • People Leadership: Is able to lead a group of around ~10 engineers and support, coach and develop them through their career with regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
  • Technical Influence: Partners with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for our engineering practices.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Builds strong stakeholder relationships with other teams, and creates a focus space for engineers to do their best work.
  • Organisational Wide Impact: Collaborates with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards.

The interview process:

Our interview process involves three main stages

  1. Recruiter Call (30 mins) You'll meet our Engineering Leadership Recruiter to discuss your experience and learn more about Monzo. They'll be your partner and guide throughout the interview process.

  2. Initial Call (1 hour) You'll meet with one of our Senior Engineering Managers or Engineering Directors. They'll ask you about your previous experience, in particular people leadership, product delivery and technical leadership. They’ll ask example based questions (‘Tell me about a time when…’)

  3. Loop Stage (3 hours 30 mins) The Loop stage consists of 3 x 60 min interviews that take place over 1-2 days (depending on your availability) and one 30 minute reverse interview (more details below).

- Team and Org Management (1 hour)
An example based interview with 1-2 of our engineering leaders. They’re interested to hear examples from your previous experience on the teams you’ve led, how you’ve shaped and partnered with product, and the impact you had.

- System Design (1 hour)
You'll partner with a Staff or Principal Engineer on a technical whiteboarding exercise.

- Behavioural (1 hour)
Similar to Team and Org Management, this is an example based interview with 1-2 Engineering Leaders. This interview focuses on your people leadership style and core behaviours as an Engineering Manager.

As Engineering Manager at Remote, you will manage a team of Team Leaders. Your job is to align vision across multiple teams, track progress, and improve deliverability and productivity. You will take an active role in designing your organization and hiring new team members.

You'll be joining 200+ engineers across Frontend, Backend, SRE, Data and QA. We're organized into cross-functional development teams assigned to specific verticals.

We use Typescript, React and Nextjs for our front-end. Gitlab is used as version control tool and CI/CD solution. Our applications are hosted on AWS. Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote engineering excellence by setting and enforcing coding standards, code reviews, and architectural reviews. Your Role

We are looking for anEngineering Manager with a passion for cloud technology and building highly scalable software solutions. This role is pivotal in driving Hudl’s mission forward, offering ample opportunities to learn and make a significant impact on our loyal and vocal customer base.

As an Engineering Managerat Hudl, you will:

  • Drive Technical Strategy: Shape and drive the technical strategy for your team, ensuring alignment with Hudl’s overall vision. Your strategic insights will help set the direction for our engineering efforts and ensure we stay ahead in the market.
  • Drive Impact and Efficiency: With a focus on outcomes over outputs, you’ll ensure your team delivers high-impact work efficiently. Your leadership will empower your team to make data-driven decisions and iterate quickly on feedback.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with leaders from various disciplines to plan and deliver enhancements across our product suite. Your ability to integrate diverse perspectives will be key to driving innovation and ensuring our products meet the highest standards.
  • Empower and Develop Your Team: Lead a team of 4-8 software engineers with autonomy to find the best solutions using their expertise. You’ll be responsible for coaching, developing, and serving the engineers on your team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Champion Agile Practices: Participate actively in Scrum ceremonies, playing a significant role in maintaining a strong team culture. You will build and lead a diverse and high-performing roster, driving Hudl’s mission forward.

We'd like to hire someone for this role who lives near our offices in Lincoln, Omaha, or Lexington, but we're also open to remote candidates in Kansas City, Chicago, Austin, Dallas or Phoenix.

Must-Haves

  • Have experience working on cloud technology and building highly scalable software solutions. You should have a proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based systems that can scale efficiently and handle large volumes of data.
  • Demonstrate a track record of driving technical strategy and leading engineering efforts. You will have experience in setting technical direction and guiding your team towards successful project outcomes, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent. You will be committed to fostering a culture of growth, providing guidance, and supporting the professional development of your team members.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams. Your ability to articulate ideas clearly and work effectively with various stakeholders will be crucial in driving cross-functional projects and fostering a collaborative environment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Formal managerial experience. Skills like career coaching or performance management will put you in a stronger position to succeed as an Engineering Manager at Hudl.
  • Professional background in C#, React, React-Native, MongoDB and/or AWS. Adjacent languages, frameworks and services used at scale are relevant experience, but direct background in our core technologies is a plus.
  • Previous product partnership. Engineering Managers at Hudl are strong partners to Product Managers, helping them solidify the team’s upcoming roadmap. Experience in these partnerships would be an asset to your skills.

Your Role
